My RE said to stop at 12 weeks. I was on 400 mg daily. I weaned myself down for a couple of weeks and stopped at 14w. I'm 18w now and no troubles.

My OB told me to stop mine at 10 weeks. I took them until I ran out, which was probably closer to 11 weeks. So far, so good. I didn't have any refills, so I didn't ask to keep going.

Haha so I was googling "when should I stop taking progesterone?" And my old thread was returned as one of the results.

I have a new OB this pregnancy and I have like 5 refills. I had my 12 week appointment yesterday but forgot to ask him when to stop the progesterone. Do I just keep going......? Or stop around 14/16 weeks like before?

My RE had me on Prometrium suppositories and estrace Suppositories from the time of my IUI. They had me come off at eight weeks, unfortunately it didn't help the morning sickness or tiredness.

@travelingbrit: My DH actually felt the exact same way lol. But then I had a major freak out around week 14 when I hadn’t seen baby on an ultrasound in over 2 weeks and I couldn’t feel anything yet and I told DH that I either needed to schedule a private U/S to check on him or get a Doppler. I bought a Doppler for a little over $50 and it really has saved my nerves. We listen to baby’s heartbeat before bed every other day and I’ve never not been able to find it. I totally get where you’re coming from too!!! We also didn’t want to enable my hypochondria ;)

@Running Elley:

At first I really wanted to get a doppler, but I got talked out of it by SO. I'm kind of a hypochondriac by nature and he knew I would be constantly checking and I would freak out if I couldn't hear anything.

Now I actually agree with him. I know it would probably bring piece of mind temporarily, but it's probably better for my anxiety that I don't get one. Although now, the countdown to the 20 week scan seems to be taking forever!!

@travelingbrit: It’ll take a few days to get completely out of your system but I bet that you’ll notice a difference in your MS within a week! I was a nervous wreck too. I actually bought an at home Doppler online and that helped my peace of mind SO much!

I was on progesterone during both pregnancies from the very start to around 13 weeks. No spotting or bleeding after I stopped! I was also told that the placenta takes over after the 12th week so no need to worry! :)

@Turtledoves:
@Everyone else:
Thank you so much telling me about your experiences. I'm feeling a little more confident about it now. I think yesterday's dose will be my last.

It's interesting that you all mention morning sickness was reduced when you stopped progesterone. I am still having morning sickness predictibily when I wake up. I'm really hoping it will be gone soon!
Part of me is reassured by it though, as I'm not yet at the stage to feel baby move. It keeps me feeling pregnant.

Arrgh! I'm such a nervous wreck. I'm so glad I have all of you for support!

I was on progesterone starting right after ovulation!!!! I’d lost two pregnancies EARLY due to low progesterone already so the progesterone supplements were totally my safety blanket. I was on both shots and suppositories this time. I stopped the shots at 12 weeks and weaned off of the suppositories. I’m 22 weeks and completely off of progesterone now and I haven’t had any issues…no spotting (which was my biggest fear). My MS also went away almost immediately after stopping the progesterone.

I asked both my OB and my perinatologist about it and they both told me that until the placenta takes over the progesterone that starts being produced from the leftover corpus luteum sustains the pregnancy. However, after the placenta takes over there are 2 completely different hormones that the placenta produces to sustain the pregnancy instead. So as long as you don’t have placental issues the extra progesterone is doing literally nothing for you as soon as the placenta takes over. He told me that I could keep taking it until I ran out of the meds if I wanted to but it would really just be for my peace of mind because it was doing nothing extra for my baby.

Good luck!!! (Sorry for the novel! I did a lot of obsessive googling ;))

Started progesterone at 5.5w with dangerously low prog levels.

I never wanted to stop progesterone, ever. I wanted to use it all the way until my son was 18years old because I was deathly afraid of anything happening to him. But, at 13 weeks I stopped. Actually, I had a week's worth of it left so I used it until 14w. EVER SINCE: never spotted, never cramped...but, if I had I would have gone running to the nearest ER to get some more progesterone!

Its a leap of faith: this whole parenting thing is....I wish you the best of luck. Trust me, once you realize that you'll be O.K without it, you'll actually be glad you're off. I felt like ishhhh ALL THE TIME while on it. I was tired and groggy and nauseated. My nausea decreased tremendously post-progesterone.
i'm 23 weeks along now and he's kicking as I write this, if that means anything!

I was really nervous to stop mine as well, I was on twice a day, so I weaned to once per day, then went off at about 13 weeks. I never had any spotting or anything, and I felt so much less disgusting off of it.

I stopped progesterone at 13 weeks. The way it was explained to me, the placenta is producing it at that point. And as long as the placenta is developed well there is no longer a need to supplement.

I stopped Crinone at 12 weeks and I never had any spotting (and I've bern quite the spotter before stopping!)...FWIW, I felt a lot better after stopping the progesterone. Less sluggish and less gross:) I'm sure your baby will be great!!!

I was so scared to stop too, but my RE said I was totally clear to stop at 10 weeks....no weaning or anything, and actually could have stopped much sooner, but its good peace of mind! My pregancy has gone super smoothly and I didnt have any spotting or anything worrisome after stopping. Your placenta has taken over by now and im sure all will be just fine. And its so wonderful to be done with suppositories, omg!

I have been taking progesterone suppositories since 5wks.
I am now 14wks and was told to stop taking the progesterone at 12wks.

I have about a weeks worth left, so even though I ignored the instructions, I'll be running out in a week.

Please reassure me that when I stop taking them, everything will be ok. I am so nervous and afraid of something going wrong, i could use some encouragement.

Thanks in advance!
