@Adira: yeah I read its not a huge deal til about a year old.. But I was a nuk addict and my brother sucked his thumb much later than 12 mo and both of us have straight teeth and no speech problems... Ill try to greatly reduce pacis at one year. Actually from about 4 mo to 6 mo dd went to sleep without one!

The next size up shouldn't be a choking hazard; that's why they make it bigger. But according to Baby 411, even the smaller size is too big for them to actually choke on, they just make bigger ones for peace of mind. But still, couldn't hurt to move up the size.

LO is 12 weeks and will sometimes take an orthodontic paci, but likes the soothie way better. I have been reducing how often we use it but I guess I need to think about either making her love a different kind or moving on up to the next size!

Yikes - I have no advice! Xander is 3 months and still using the original soothie. It didn't even occur to me to stop... I know they made 3m+ soothies though, so I don't know why you couldn't use those...

Hm never heard of this but it makes sense. J stopped the smoothies (all pacis, really) at 3 mo

Also totally unrelated but thought I would update youn- we are still doing Zantac- full dose. When we cut him to once a day his spit up increased and he was fussy with it. Gonna try again at 5 mo !

D is 4.5 months and still using the hospital-style paci, the green Soothies. I just read somewhere that babies shouldn't use these past the age of 3months. One thing I read said they should be switched to an orthodontic paci because the shape of the Soothies nipple can cause issues when their teeth come in. Another thing said to switch because the Soothies are too flexible and babies can shove the whole thing in their mouths and choke.

I tried to switch his paci out last night and it did not go over well - he just kept pushing it out and then gagged. I know Soothies makes a next stage one that is more firm to prevent the baby from bending it and getting it in his mouth, but the nipple shape is still the same. I only read one thing that mentioned the nipple shape issue; everything else talked about the choking hazard.

Has anyone else heard about this? Did you switch pacis at some point?
