Update!

Finally have gotten into a groove with this. I've been going to a class at 5 am 3x a week that is about 5-10 minutes from my house. I blast the A/C on my face the whole way home. Then I take a cool shower to try to cool off as much as possible. I then bought a small fan that I keep on my vanity so that when I am getting ready, that helps to keep me from not sweating everything off. I think it will help more that it's starting to get cooler so it's not hot and humid on top of it.

@Mommy Finger:
Your schedule sounds reasonable. My few suggestions are:

1) when working out, be sure you are breathing. This sounds silly, but it seriously helps with tomato face.
2) Give yourself a god 5 minutes after working out to sit and cool down (after stretching).
3) After you shower, put on a bathrobe instead of your work clothes and wait on your makeup. After you get everyone ready & out the door, then put on clothes and makeup.

I think that should give you enough time to not feel sweaty and red-faced after your morning workout.

Let us know how its going!

@jennlin821: So here is how I had envisioned it going or what I've done in the past:
-Get up early and work out
-drink water and towel off
-take shower and try to get ready
-wake up kids and get them ready
-make them breakfast and double check their bags are packed
-leave for school/work

I usually try to do intermittent fasting so I take my breakfast to work

Could you be specific with your routine details? What are you do doing in what order for how long?

Before kid, I never sweated. After... well now I'm like a soupy swamp. I work out in the morning, and at lunch break at work. Two things work best for me:
1) use a towel to frequently wipe the sweat from my face/neck/hairline.
2) sit in front of a fan for 5 minutes while drinking water.

The fan directly on my face, while I sit completely still really helps to cool my whole body down, and therefore reduce my tomato face. I also frequently get a cold wet towel to put on my face while sitting in front of the fan.

@Mommy Finger: Ahh yeah that makes sense. And I totally get it. It's SO HARD to trade sleep for working out (at least for me)!
I know a lot of people who have had a really positive experience doing an early morning workout, including having time for themselves in the quiet which so rarely happens. Maybe you can build in some kind of reward for yourself during your cooldown time. Enjoying a more leisurely breakfast, sitting to have a cup of coffee or tea while it's still warm, or listening to an audiobook or podcast?

@lindseykaye: I appreciate that! Unfortunately, I don't have a lot to do in the mornings as I take care of 95% of it before bed. Really the only thing I need to do is get the kids up and feed them breakfast. Unfortunately, I can't leave them to their own devices while I get ready. Disaster waiting to happen. I really do just need to bite the bullet and adjust my sleep schedule. And in the end, I will probably like having some time to myself in the morning. I don't get much of that!

@Mommy Finger: I was assuming your morning routine with a workout would go like this (since it 'makes sense')
1) workout
2) shower
3) get ready yourself
4) do the rest of the morning things

So I was trying specifically to suggest something that did not require you to get up earlier since, hah, there's no way I would do that myself if I was already getting up early. That's why I was thinking the morning could be rearranged more like:
1) workout
2) other morning things
3) shower
4) get ready yourself

Of course, this may not work for a number of reasons but it shouldn't require you to give up any more precious sleep.

Another sweaty tomato face here! My mom has the same issue. The only time I wasn’t getting this issue was when I was actually fit and running regularly. It’s always the worst when I’m newly active again or when the seasons change. Like others I need to cool down before showering and usually that means being outside in a breeze or under a fan. As soon as I go inside and there’s no air flow: tomato. As well, taking a regular temp shower instead of the cool shower I desperately want is better for afterwards. If it’s cool, same thing, the temp difference makes me break out in a tomato sweat within 2 mins of getting out.

Just another one raising my hand to say that I need to stop sweating before I take a shower or I get the after sweats. I'm not terrible all year round, but in the summer I am a profuse sweater. I generally make my lunch after I run in the morning and do a few other chores before showering. I just wait until I know I'm done sweating before I get in.

I have to cool down 100% before I shower, otherwise I end up a sweaty mess too. I could just get up 15 mins earlier (I know it sucks!) and build a 5-10 min cool down into your workout and then take an additional 5 mins to rest. That usually does it for me.

So I just bought this ice roller that tons of bloggers rave about. Most mornings I use it just to wake up and de puff my face. But it also helps me cool down after a workout and helps redness go away a bit faster. You keep the roller in the freezer so it is always ready.

Work out at night?

I'm the same way and find that the worst thing I can do is shower. I give it a good 39 minutes before showering. Otherwise it's a lost cause

I have this problem too! No silver bullet for me but I definitely try to hit it from all angles - cold shower, pound super cold water (let ice water sit in my insulated ss cup), turn your ac down a notch for that time, I also find it really helpful to put a cool wet washcloth on the back of your neck (if it doesn’t mess up your hair) and run my wrists under cool water.

It’s great that you sweat! Burn more calories etc. Can you shower and cool off and when you get to work put your makeup on? I’d also stay hydrated... lots of water and spice it up with fruits, cucumbers etc.

I'm right there with you so I have no tried-and-tested advice about how to combat this. I really think it's just part of how certain people's bodies work.
I do have one suggestion though, and that's to just change the order of your morning routine. Work out first thing and then do all your other morning tasks before showering and getting ready. Make the lunches, pack the bags, eat breakfast, whatever else you do in the AM. Or you can shower right after working out and then continue to cool down while you do everything else before you tackle makeup.

Hopefully you find a good solution! I'll be reading along to try some things myself :)

Truth: I need to start working out. I've been lazy for too long. I really need to start getting up a little earlier and doing some morning workouts as that's the only way I'll get them in. Unfortunately, I'm someone that gets super red faced and very sweaty when I work out and/or get hot. So this has always posed a challenge after working out in the morning as it takes awhile to cool down. A cold or lukewarm shower doesn't help too much. And then I try to get ready for work and putting on makeup is a disaster as I'm still red faced and everything sweats off. Any tips on how to cool down faster so that I don't have another excuse for why I'm lazy. :)
