Oh boooo. OH just pointed out that we can't do anything built in because that nook is needed to fit large items up the stairs. So now I need to find a solution like @catgirl: posted but with taller storage in the middle.

I love the pictures @Hypatia and @catgirl linked. I think tall cupboards flanking the window is going to look weird, my feeling is you need to use the full width.

@Hypatia: I like those but I need doors  I have 24 inches each side.

Also did you know you linked the same thing all four times?

@Hypatia: @crazydoglady: @catgirl: Is it going to look too cabinet-y if I do this? I would want the center part to come up to at least counter height (the window is 40 inches from the floor).

I can’t tell how much room you have on either side of the window, but I like this cabinet (19 inches): https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30371711/

Or this one at around 36”: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30371711/

Then this bench (actually a tv stand) at 72”: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30371711/

Or this shorter one at 58”: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30371711/

Maybe something like this? Or at least a similar shape with something taller in the middle.

@Hypatia: That's exactly what I was going to suggest!

I would use the entire wall space. You'll never regret having more storage.

My new house does not have a linen closet. There is a pretty big nook at the top of the stairs where I would like to add storage. Except I can't decide what kind!

I was thinking either a large sideboard under the window, tall freestanding cabinets on each side of the window, or built in cabinets under the window.
