@deerylou: hi again- so they do still do free stories on their podcast. I finally got around to downloading some new ones this week and my daughter loves them. We heard one from the willoughby tree series, which is about a family with a magic tree in their backyard that takes them on adventures. She loved it, and I think I may buy some more of those for her upcoming birthday. I think the series is about animals experiencing challenges that mirror the kids' challenges. Talking animals is a big hit around here.
Hope you find some that work for you!

@Silva: Thank you so much for your descriptions! I'm definitely going to research both of the series you mentioned; they sound great. I'm absolutely fine with the Wolforf perspective. We're actually considering a Waldorf inspired charter in our area once it comes time for school, so this is definitely of interest to me.

@deerylou: they used to have a free podcast, I'm not sure if they still do because they started a website with a subscription service. But in my experience they'd be worth paying for, and I'm planning to get a few for my daughters upcoming birthday. I have 7 stories that my daughter just wants to hear over and over again. They are really wonderful and some are story series. You can also search the website for stories that talk about experiences kids can relate to- like we listen to one called Teeny the Toadlet about a toad who learns she will be going to a new school without some of the friends that she grew up with. It can be a good way to frame conversations about challenging feelings.
If your LO likes adventure stories, you could check out the By Thistle By Thimble story series, which is about knights, princesses, etc. The only one I've heard from that series so far is Constable Phelps and the Wondersmith, and my daughter enjoys it very much.

They are a Waldorf family, they are friends with some of the people I know through our local school. I'd say the stories lean toward the Waldorf perspective, but I think any family could enjoy them. They are helping me brush up on my story telling skills- I"d really like to feel more confident about telling stories myself!

That was super long winded, sorry. We have a 45 minute commute to daycare twice a week, and these stories have saved my sanity. I don't even care that they are on repeat at this point- I can tune them out and she is fully engrossed.

@honeybear: the library's a great idea! I'll check out their streaming service, as well. Thx!

@Silva: I'll add that one to the list! Thank you!

I borrow books on CD from the library! Sometimes I act like I live in the 21st-century and we listen to books on the library's streaming service. We listened to the free samples on Sparkle Stories (a subscription service), and they were okay, but I don't have to pay extra at the library, and they've got really good options.

DD (2.5) has long been a bookworm, but has recently taken a huge liking to oral storytelling. She wants me to "tell her an adventure" multiple times a day - over lunch, in the bath, while she paints, does puzzles or beads. It's really wonderful, but I am running out of momentum. :silly:

"Back in my day" we had books on cassette tapes and I would listen to them, for hours. I am curious if anyone else has a LO who enjoys this, and can recommend an app, podcast or YouTube Channel that they like. This would be in lieu of screen time, so nothing that requires looking at the screen or pushing buttons/arrows/etc.

Thanks, in advance!
