I didn't get a lot of craziness from strangers until LO got older about one specific issue: the gocery store. LO HATES sitting in the car with the belt on with a fiery passion. SO I have the choice of either having her scream while I grocery shop (she doesn't care about snacks or toys or anything else), or I can save everyone's ears and my sanity and she can stand in the big cart, which she loves to do.

SO I let her stand. And I get SO many older ladies telling me how dangerous it is. The sides of the cart are almost as tall as she is (she can't fall out) and she holds on. It's totally safe. And much more pleasant for all of us--for whatever reasons, LO likes doing it, and I can get the shopping done, so win-win as far as I'm concerned. I just tell the "helpful" passerby that we're fine and move on. But it is annoying.

@Mrs. Pen: It has to be generational! DH's grandma yelled at me today for not putting a hat on DD. It's 80+ degrees and she sweats in her car seat. She claims the wind is going to give her an ear infection...

@macintosh: @Woolly Mammoth: must be a generational thing! We were visiting family in NY awhile ago with our four month old, it was over 90 degrees, hot and humid, so I had him in a onesie to keep cool- and a lady at the deli reprimanded me for not putting socks on him!

I agree with @birdofafeather: .. I try to give the benefit of the doubt and I find it more obnoxious the older Lo gets (although it happens way less often.) You just have to have thick skin and let things roll off your back a little. You can't please everyone!

i mostly gave people benefit of the doubt, but it bothered me more as she got older.

I can't remember if I got any doozies or not. I'm sure I did, but I got really good at having resting bitch face and people left me alone.

I think I became more comfortable being assertive since motherhood because so many people have differing opinions they express insistently and as absolute truth. You become an expert at disagreeing politely and if they still don't back down telling them to go F themselves, politely of course

Old ladies always worry about babies being cold. I definitely got some "Put a hat on that baby!" comments when I was out walking on a warm day with my little guy in the Ergo. He would have boiled!

I had a lady approach me at SAMs club and ask if he should be out shopping. I simply told her we needed things and walked away. Toilet paper is totally an unnecessary thing to shop for, duh.

At least if anyone is shitty with me this time, I can say "not my first rodeo"!

I have an almost 5 week old and I've noticed that every older lady seems to have an opinion on what I'm doing.

Last week I went to pick up his birth certificate. He was fussy so I took him out of the car seat, then later had to put him back in. He cries every time I put him in there, but the clerk was sure that it was because the straps were too tight around his neck. No, he's going to cry for a few minutes and then fall asleep like he does every time. I promise I'm not strangling my baby!

Yesterday I was at the doctor with DH and DS. 2 older ladies were in line with me to check in and one asked how old DS was. Then she proceeded to tell the other lady about how when she had babies they were told to bundle them up before they went out. It was 80 degrees and DS was in a onesie. Good heavens, lol!
