I had a post on this a long while back. It was mainly when we lived by a big college and almost always it was young asian women with a smartphone, not usually a regular camera (though that also happened). I left that part out of the post but I had been wondering if it was something cultural that I didn't know about too. I never said anything to them but I don't love the idea that a stranger might have posted her picture up on facebook or instagram.

I've never had a stranger do that, but I do worry about people taking secret pictures. I see all the pictures of some unsuspecting person on the people of Walmart site or other crazy sites and worry someone will do that to LO.

@zippylef: I definitely think there is an Asian aspect (Asians from Asia). Last month we were on vacation in Asia and people, especially young women, were CONSTANTLY coming up to DS, wanting to hold him, squeeze his cheeks, take pics with him, etc. it didn't bother me. Where we live in Vienna we see a lot of Asian tour groups and on several occasions, they have taken pics of DS while he is playing, sitting on a park bench or whatever. Again, I'm not too bothered by it. I think they just think non Asian babies/kids are cute, especially if they don't see them often.

@travelgirl1: on the other hand, this elevator situation sounds totally creepy. I think someone took a "secret" pic of DS and I on the u-bahn the other day because I totally heard a click and saw a guy's camera sitting on his lap facing us.

I don't care if its people I know, but strangers would bug me. I think I would just politely ask them to please not take photos of my child. It's one thing if they are randomly in the background, but that strawberry picking lady would really bug me.

Okay, so can any of the asian ladies tell me if this is maybe a cultural thing? This happened last summer too when we took DHs cousin and her kids to Olympic Village in London except it was an asian man that time. He wanted them to pose with a giant plushie of the Olympic mascot.

Super awkward.

That's terrible. I would probably not know what to do about it in the moment, either. I mean, how do you know to be prepared for something like that??

I think she should have asked first. I would have kindly asked her not to and to delete ones she already taken.

@zippylef: I had almost the same exact thing happen at the park. The lady started snapping pictures, and once she saw that I'd noticed, explained that she was a photography student. I let her snap a few more because what was I really going to do at that point? Then we moved to another area.

I was at the zoo with LO and as we were walking to the car someone stopped me and said he was so cute and she wanted to take a picture but didnt want to be creepy. I just awkwardly giggled, said thanks and went to my car. I didn't know what to do either!

A guy in the elevator in our building asked if he could take a picture of A the other day. She was just chilling out in her stroller and it was kind of awkward but I didn't know what to do so I just said "okay, I guess" and he snapped her on his phone. I felt really weird about it though, I mean why does he want that picture? I'm still not sure how I should have handled it. I also don't like people taking photos of her on Skype without telling me. Fine if they tell me they're doing it, but just to take random secret pictures of her when I don't know they're doing it just doesn't sit right with me.

I went with a friend to pick strawberries today and C was walking/crawling around the field, having a blast. This asian woman with a large camera started snapping pictures of her!

It was really awkward. I wasnt sure how to handle it, so I didnt say anything. I just smiled at the lady and picked C up and walked away.

Have you ever had this happen? How did you handle it?
