I probably would have declined since she gave me the option. Technically she didn't have to ask and you couldn't have done a thing about it if she snapped a pic without asking.

Knowing myself I probably would have said yes for lack of a better response but then later thought it was weird and regretted it.

I would have looked at her funny but said ok. It's only happened to us once before. We were at a Mardi gras parade and DS was playing with bubbles in the street while we were waiting for the parade. I noticed his picture was taken without permission but it was by a reporter with a press pass and big old camera. My DH would have said no. He assumes all people are freaks!

I may be naive, but I think that crazy people would just take the picture without asking. She didn't have to ask. I would have let her

No, never. I rarely post pix of LO as it is and I would just feel weird about a stranger having a picture of her.

I usually say yes. I saw people taking their picture at a concert once because it's pretty funny to see infants in headphones, and at a tailgate party because they were damn cute in their outfits. Usually people do it when they are being darling, so it doesn't seem like they have any malicious intent at all.

I would've said yes in this case. But, I'm not hypersensitive about about pictures anyway. Someone would have to flag my freak radar for me to say no. I've never been in this kind of situation though!

With the internet, 90% of the time, no I wouldn't. I just don't want pictures out there of my child that I can't control (for advertising, memes, horrible stuff I don't even want to think about) and the person taking a picture owns the image. At a nursing home we were at, one of the elderly women asked to take a picture with LO in his costume on her film camera. That's a circumstance in which I just can't see the harm. But even in your scenario of the firetruck seat, I would have politely said "oh, he's very shy about pictures but I'll move him so you can take one of it." I do think it was very nice of her to ask, a lot of people would just snap away which drives me really crazy.

I think it depends. I would have been ok with it in your situation, but likely not if it had been a man. When we traveled to Asia last year with my blue-eyed DS, tons of random people wanted to take pictures with him or of him. It was purely the novelty factor for them and I was fine with it.

These days with the internet, probably not. BUT when we were little we went to a national park (all three of us little girls my twin and I were about 8 and my little sister was 5). And a group of Japanese tourists were enamored by the three blue eyed blond haired little girls that we took pictures with them etc. But in that case, they wouldn't have gone all over the internet they were personal pictures.

I would have let her in this case. LO has a pair of purple Ugg boots with ribbon laced up the back and a woman at the airport stopped us and asked if she could take a picture of the boots because she has a 3 year old daughter who would love some too, and she had not seen that style before. Similar to your situation, the request was more centered around an item and not directly with LO so I said no problem and she snapped a few pics.

When we were on the cruise last week, the older couple at the dining table beside us took a picture of LO clapping and smiling, which I thought was a little weird since it wasn't a picture of all of us, just LO. They showed me after and said how adorable LO is and that they just had to get a picture - - meh, whatever floats your boat. I think it's polite if people ask first, they certainly can take pics without asking and no one would ever know.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I would have said no. But I'm pretty sensitive about LO and strangers... he's a very outgoing kid, and will walk up to anyone. Which means he's made friends with quite a few characters in our neighborhood, and I have to deal with way too much unwanted advice / random people playing with him.

So LO had his first salon haircut a few days ago. He sat in the firetruck chair (kids dedicated salon) and looked so cute that several passerbys stopped to watch through the window. One grandmotherly woman came inside and asked me if she could take his picture, saying she is visiting from Australia and they don't have anything like that firetruck chair.

Thoughts?
