@josina: Yay! I'm glad it worked. For really stubborn stains I've done a second round and that typically gets it out. Can't beat it for only $2.

@Aandmklover: I wish I would've done a before/after! DS was wearing a brand new nike shirt this weekend and got into some grease outside, rubbed it ALL over his shirt. Oxy clean didnt work but the bar got it almost all out! (There is one spot but it's super light).

Last night my Son ate BBQ chips and chips and Guac at a family picnic. He kept wiping his hand on his shirt. This is the before, I used the bar, and after out if the laundry. Please don't judge how bad the shirt is before  :silly:

@josina: Saturday I was getting some clothes back that I lent to my SIL for my Nephew and to my great sadness my DS2's coming home outfit got to her house. My Nephew had terrible acid reflux and threw up a lot. My precious outfit had stains around the neck. My Nephew is a year old so he hasn't worn the outfit in over a year and the stain had been sitting that Long. Last night I used that bar and much to my delight it got the year old stain out.

I do an oxy soak on anything that has a stain on it. I line dry most things, especially if they could potentially have a stain. And wash with All Free and Clear. Works 99% of the time.

She eats in a diaper. Taking her clothes off and putting them back on after is 100000x less work than spraying/soaking/scrubbing out stains every day. I am impressed by all of you who put in all that work.

I am terrible at stain removal, it seems no matter what I try, I always end up ruining something, so I just don't buy precious clothes. My son has always been a very neat eater, our problem is more mud/grass/paint.

I use the sun.

Best ever, just wash normally and while still wet lay out flat outside in the sun and the food born stains (like tomato sauce etc.) will be gone. So easy!

@Smurfette: I don't really have a spot to keep a bucket. If needed I use one of those shallow dish pans and set it on the dryer or the bathroom counter. But it's not something j can easily leave out all the time.

@PinkElephant: This is kind of all of my kids' clothes :) We have an endless supply of hand-me-downs, and none of them are too precious. What bothers me the most, though, is the food stains around the neck, which accumulate and just look grungy :( And the problem is that those stains happen almost every day.

@Ms maths: on finding a balance...i do keep a few sets of clothes for each season for each kid that I just don't care about...so if they're doing a messy activity but need to have clothes on, DH and I both know to just grab the "bummy" clithes, and we don't care what happens to them.

Thanks for all of the replies! It's interesting to see what everyone does. I think I partly need to find the balance between how much the stains bother me with how much work I'm willing to put in (and how much I'm willing to ask DH to do).

My father did the laundry growing up. Our clothes always came out PRISTINE, but he put in a crazy amount of work to do it. So I have the expectation that clothes should come out of the laundry clean, but I'm not willing to put in the effort that he did.

@lamariniere: I'm going to have to try this!

I hate stained clothes but I hate changing outfits too so we did bibs for a long time. Also, I just try and treat the stain that same day. Usually spray it and that's enough but sometimes I soak as well. And if it's really bad I'll make sure to check the wash and if the stain is still visible I'll treat again and run it through the wash again.

If it's super messy food then she just eats in her diaper. Otherwise I spray immediately with oxyclean. I leave it on top of the washing machine and basically re-spray it every time I walk by and remember until it's finally time to wash.

I also have the oxyclean powder that I will use to soak in at times. We don't have a laundry room so I just bought a dollar store basin and keep it downstairs and soak in there!

Oh, and after washing, always check to make sure the stain is gone before putting it into the dryer...because if the stain is still there and you put it in the dryer, the heat sets the stain in even more! I learned the hard way!
