If he's at a good weight you can start taking away the nursing sessions... and especially since he's eating solids well. My pediatrician said that they don't drink much at first, but eventually they will get thirsty and learn. Weaning was fortunately very easy for us since he took a bottle once a day since he was born, so I just substituted a bottle instead of a nursing session, one by one until we weren't nursing anymore. So whatever he takes best, just stick with that. For RJ the take n toss straw cups were best.

Yes, I have tried and he chokes himself silly! I guess I'm just wondering how to start weaning. Should I start taking away his midday b-feedings first?

Have you tried a cup with a straw? I've read that some babies will do better with those instead of sippy cups.

My son is 11 months and has been exclusively breastfed since he was born. He eats solids very well, but he's not too good with sippy cups or bottles. If he uses one, he usually drinks no more than 1 ounce! I'm hoping to wean him by his first birthday, but am at a complete loss of what to do! Any suggestions for getting him off the breast?
