Ugh, at 8 months we just got comfortable with naps and church. For the longest time we just didn't go because we couldn't figure it out. :( Church starts at 8 or 9:30, and she used to nap from 8:30 - 11, so neither of those times worked for us. Finally she's down to one nap on the weekends and goes down at 10-11ish depending on the day. So, we're finally able to go to church again.

Not helpful at all to you, but I understand the stress!

We're struggling with this right now too. Our church has services at 9:30 and 11:15 so we can usually make it to one or the other. Neither are ideal though as her usual naptime is 10:30. We usually try the 11 service and put her down early around 9:30 or 9:45 for an hour. She usually isn't that great in church and gets fussy so one of us have to take her to the back and feed her cheerios :( So distracting!

I either wore her at church or just dealt with skipping a nap. For us, church is more important than one messed up nap.

We have the same situation - service and morning nap overlap ... we never really figured out how to make it work.
Sometimes he naps before, sometime he sleeps on the way and the best days we can transfer him from the car and he stay asleep through service (in his carseat), sometimes he's tired and cranky but won't sleep and I "volunteer" to stay in the nursery with him, and sometimes I get paged to come pick him up part way through because he's tired but won't settle for the nursery volunteers. Those times, we hang out in the nursing nook and watch the service on the TV in there.
We just kinda go with the flow and hope for the best.

@Mrs. Deer: ah, I always nursed him to sleep at church too :) we just decided we had to make it work somehow, because not going to church was not an option for us! it's not fun, but we survive ;)

@looch: she won't nap in the car seat or stroller anymore :(

@photojane: I could, I just hate to short change her like 2 hours of sleep. If I did that I think I'd have to give her 3 naps, and usually on 3 nap days she'll wake up more at night. So silly!

@Mrswonderwoman: that sounds good, I think I need to try and go with the flow a bit more and stop trying to control things :)

@tinyperson: yeah, she's not great at napping while we're out either. This new church we're trying is in a school auditorium while it's building is being renovated so there's no mothers room that I know of. Maybe we'll get there early so she can nurse/nap in the car...so tricky!

@Running Elley: she used to wakeup around 6:30 but it seems to be moving later and later. When we turn the clocks back I think we'll be perfect! :)

@Mrs. Deer: Can you just keep her up after her 5:30 wake up? I know that's early, but maybe just on Sundays. Then, you can put her down for a long nap around 7:30, and you can get ready for church...?

When DS was younger than 6 months, I wrapped him for a nap and he'd sleep through church. He's a little more mobile now and won't do that...well, I haven't tried in a while. I'm not keen on him napping in the PnP in the nursery ( I doubt he'd last long). So I just do his nap at home, and if we make it to church, great...if not, it's a bummer, but I don't fret about it.

Sundays are so tricky. Our LO is on two naps, but doesn't sleep well out of the house...won't sleep in the car seat or stroller, and we don't have a nursery to put her in during meetings. There is a mothers room with a rocking chair, but I feel bad monopolizing the room I case one of the other littles needs it (we only have a few babies, but they need to be fed more often than our 10 month old). Some weeks she'll go down for a short early nap, others I'll try to get her to nap during the service. Depending on what happens we might go home at the break instead of sticking around for the Bible study/Sunday school. We kinda play it by ear and go with the flow on Sundays!

We've been switching his naptimes on Sundays so that he gets a nap before church- even if its a little shorter than normal. He will not nap at church... There's way too much going on for him. We leave him in the church nursery and they couldn't get him to nap. Luckily (???) he wakes up at 6:30am. His normal naptime is 10am for his morning nap but on Sundays I put him down at 8:45-9. We wake him up at 10, right before we need to leave, and get him dressed. Our service is at 10:40. It can definitely be tricky!

@Penny Lane: I've thought about that, but she usually won't sleep unless I nurse her. Hmmm, so tricky! I'm glad you guys mark it work :)

we just have LO nap at church as best we can. whether I'm holding him or he's in his stroller. he rarely lasts more than a half hour asleep.

then, because he's still on 2 naps we just move the second nap a little earlier than normal after church!

For those that attend church on Sundays (or really, any morning events) what do you do about your LO's naps? Since we moved we found a new church we like, but their service is at 10 and that is Little Deer's nap time exactly. She normally wakes around 7:30, so I thought we could wake her early...but she also nurses around 4:30/5:30...so my dilemma this morning is that she nursed at 5:30, was back asleep by 5:50...how can I wake her up at 6:00?? (That's how early it'd have to be to get that nap before church). That seems too early and mean since she just fell back asleep. She doesn't sleep well out and about either. Such a dilemma! Her sleep is important to us, but so is church.

Any ideas? How have you all made church/events work when they were during LO's naps?
