Thank you so much everyone! I took your advice and kept her home and am glad for it! She improved with the higher dose thank God. She's still not feeling well but today it wasn't the screaming tantrums anymore !

I wouldn't bother with the ER because they wouldn't be able to do anything significant for her considering she is on antibiotics already. Strep is super painful :( Maybe give her an ice pop to help her soothe her throat if she's willing to try swallowing something?

We did er last weekend and it sucks. I can't imagine having a writhing toddler in my arms trying to keep her away from super sick people. If you can wait, do...

@MrsLilybugg: it is so so totally normal. With C's first real major sickness (over 5 days of high fever, not strep - some crazy virus), I was a complete and utter wreck. It is so hard watching your child suffer when it is beyond your control to fix. Do whatever you can to keep LO comfortable and stay on top of the meds for pain. It took days for c to stop complaining about his throat -nearly the whole course of amoxicillin - so don't panic if this lasts a long time. Hugs from me

C was inconsolable and wouldn't d much but lay on me and watch television. Wouldn't ingest nearly anything. It was the most miserable thing ever (and that's with him being 2 and old enough to express some of his pain and feelings in words). I imagine it would be worse if he was less verbal. I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. The issue with the ER is that there likely isn't a ton they can do or tell you. If would wait it out and listen to your ped.

LO is 15 months and was diagnosed with strep yesterday. Right now she's on third dose of antibiotic. She seems in more pain today than yesterday. Screaming tantrums - epic ones. She writhes in my arms and pulls away and seeks the floor, then bashes head on floor. Scary. She woke up from nap and cried / screamed immediately but when I tried to pick her up she writhed until I put her on ground then crawled warp speed screaming across the living room and almost straight into a table!! (Oh and this is how she's woke up each time since last night: crying immediately and tantruming) When I called pediatrician earlier they said to increase dose on Tylenol/ibuprofen (am alternating ) because she's almost 24lbs, and if she's like this all night to bring her in Saturday morning. They also asked how I knew the pain was from throat (??? Recent strep diagnosis?) .. Anyway I told my DH if she had another episode even with higher dosage I'd go to ER. He tries to look at things objectively and thinks we should wait until morning because 1) "the pediatricians don't seem worried and didn't suggest ER" 2) this is her first real time being sick and it freaks her out , 3) I may be overreacting because it's my first time dealing with strep baby and 4) they'll subject her to tests in ER and she will be exposed to other infectious horrors.

Sigh. So is this a normal pain reaction to strep? Also: no rashes!
