@LovelyPlum: So glad to hear that you survived and got to leave early! I also hope you got the logistics worked out so that pumping is smoother tomorrow. 15 oz sounds great! Yay!

Here is some info to help you out:
http://www.workandpump.com/gettingstarted.htm

One of the very best pumping at work tip I have ever heard is...don't wash all your pumping parts after each time! Throw them in a plastic bag and put it all in the freezer! Then you only have to wash once a day at home. I would put it all in a zip lock and then stuff it in my unch bag inbetween pumping.

Also stress really does make pumping harder so try taking deep breaths while pumping and looking at pictures of your LO. Good luck!

I think in some states they are legally obligated to provide you with a place to pump. I think its trick with a new job, but you may want to look into that...

Thank you all so much  Today was stressful, but overall pretty good. The biggest hurdle, other than LO's decision to hold play time at 4:30 this morning, was that despite assurances to the contrary, I didn't have a place to pump. My access to the mother's room had not cleared by this morning, so I had to scramble and find something that would work. The upside is that I had to go to another building to sort out my access, so they let me leave early to deal with it and told me to go home early afterwards :)

The good news is that pumping didn't go terribly. I got about 15 ounces combined, but I could tell my stress level affected my letdown. I hope it is easier tomorrow, when I have somewhere to go.

Also, totally wearing different shoes. I wore patent leather peep toe pumps in an effort to be cute, and all I got for my effort was a blister down the length of my pinkie toe. Not pleasant!

Hope it goes well today!! I agree with others that you should make sure to keep your hydration up and don't forget to eat! I find that if I don't eat enough or slack on the water, my pumping goes to crap.

You got this!!! be sure to stay hydrated so you don't have to stress about your pump output. I also do not refrigerate or clean my pump parts between sessions (major time saver!) and be sure to lock the door :)

I hope everything goes well for you! The anticipation is always the hardest bit - in a few days, you will be totally into your new routine! My golden tip is this - make sure you know where your house and car keys are the night before! I have turned into many a sweaty mess in the mornings trying to locate missing keys!!! :goodluck:

Good luck! Pumping is weird but you will get used to it. Think about all the HBers who do it (or have done it) daily! You are not alone!

I did not wash my pump parts or even refrigerate them during the day (BM is fine at room temperature for up to 8 hours) so that saved a lot of time.

Wear something easy to pump in--a button down shirt and cami or nursing bra is a good option at the beginning.

Bring a nursing cover if you have one in case you are not sure about how private your pumping location will be.

Leaving LO is hard but it is so nice to cuddle up at the end of the day.

What I learned my first day back that I still use: use a lunch bag that you can throw your pump parts and pumped milk in. If you have to pump more than once, you don't want to have to wash your pump parts each time. Just put them all together in the fridge! I do use the Medela quick clean wipes for the flanges so they aren't freezing. I throw them in a bag with my hands-free bra and milk storage bags and take that and the lunch bag to the pump room!

Good luck! And remember the first day can be the hardest, but the absolute best feeling is going home to your LO at the end of the day!

I'm starting a short-term job tomorrow, and I am totally freaking out right now. Don't get me wrong-I am very excited for the work I'm.going to be doing. My stress comes from the fact that a) it is something new, b) I'm leaving LO (albeit with Daddy) and most of all, c) I'm going to have to pump. I know it will be OK, and this time tomorrow will be so much better. I'm just freaked right now! Any tips, pumping or otherwise, for me?? If you've got 'em, I would take some good thoughts, too :)
