Wow, thank you all so much for the responses. This is so helpful! I live in NYC and we don't have a car (yet). So I imagine it'll be a lot of walking, public transportation and lugging it up and down subway stairs. I suppose we'll have to get a car seat anyway so that we can drive out to see relatives/friends who live in the suburbs. Sounds like maybe we'll need a snap n' go, umbrella and heavy duty to me. I still have a lot of time to think about it, but thank you for getting me started ladies!

I agree with others, figure out what you plan on doing with the stroller first. Are you lugging it up to your 4th floor apartment or will you throw it in the back of your SUV? Will you be jogging in the park or short trips to the grocery store?

I think that is why most people recommend just getting a snap and go frame for the first 6 months. The baby will be in the car seat that whole time anyways and you can figure out your lifestyle.

We ahve two strollers - The UppaBaby Vista (AMAZING in the city) and the UppaBaby G-Luxe (reclining umbrella stroller..) Id go against the grain here and say that if you live in a city, skip the travel system, but thats just me. Liv hates her car seat, so we couldnt ever use her seat (we bought the adapter so we could have put it on the stroller, but that was a no go.) If you are not constantly loading and unloading the stroller from a car, I dont see the need for a travel system.

There are SO MANY strollers out there its easy to get confused. But look at your circumstance and go from there.

@JessLC: Welcome to HelloBee!

I had the same problem. We went to Buy Buy Baby to scope out strollers and car seats. The associates there were SO very helpful and could answer all the questions we had. I did some research first with the Baby Bargains book, did some research online and then went in with a list of about 5 or 6 strollers and car seats I wanted to look at. Once we got into the store and were able to touch and feel and carry and roll things around, it helped narrow down our search. The associate we worked with helped us make our final decision, though.

I live in a town where we drive everywhere, so you may not pick the same one we did, but we went with Britax. I can't give you reviews because our LO isn't here yet but the big thing about it (other than safety) that we like is it's not a monstrosity like some of the travel systems out there.

We have a Chicco Liteway that we love. It is light enough and folds down easily so it is ideal for short strolls around the neighborhood or a trip to the zoo. When out and about for long periods of time like for say, a festival or fair, we prefer to babywear most of the time and have the stroller for part of the day so we only need the one stroller.

We bought the Graco travel system when DD was a baby and later ended up buying the stroller frame. I wish we'd just bought the frame in the first place and skipped the big stroller. We rarely use it, except for walks because we keep it in the garage. Of course, we were flying a lot more which made the frame a lot more handy.

We have two: Graco lite travel system (really only used the stroller part while DD was in the infant seat, it is now in storage) and the First Years Jet unbrella stroller.

We love that the Jet goes up to 50# and keep it in the car; love that it is lightweight and has 5pt harness, downside is that it doesn't recline very much but DD doesn't sleep in the stroller so it isn't too big of a deal.

Oh, I loved the free one given to me, mainly because it was free. I think the wheels are very important. I realized that was mot important.... to easily 4wheel drive (actually 8 wheel) over grass and curbs but other than that anything goes if you are not planning on going on long stretches with them.I don't know how my LO is comfortable in her stroller....looks a bit weird....but she's actually very content almost all of the time. (Older Graco model).

There's no one perfect stroller out there and every year, new models come out so you can easily go into analysis paralysis! Once I realized this, I was much more relaxed in figuring out what my needs were. MrsDaredevil's list is a good starting point.

I'd also add if you will ever need to add a double to it and if you'll be doing any kind of air travel.

I really think it depends on where you live and what you will be using the stroller for.
-do you live in a big city? Will you walk from destination to destination?
-do you live in a suburban area? will you be driving more?
-how much space in your car do you have? Can you fit a bulky stroller or do you need a small one?
-do you live in an apartment? Will you need to navigate the stroller up stairs or in elevators?
-what is your budget?
-What are your hobbies? What kinds of things wills you be doing with baby?

Hope this helps....these questions really helped me. There is no where around here I could even walk to since we live in the suburbs, so I drive a lot. I have a big SUV so size of stroller wasn't an object, etc.

I was completely overwhelmed too. Our LO hasn't even been born yet and I'm excited by our stroller choice. We got the UppaBaby Cruz with the car seat adapter for our car seat. We'll also get the infant insert so if we're just taking a walk from home, we can just use the stroller. I love the Vista but it was too heavy for me - even though the Cruz is only 2-3 lbs lighter, I found it that much easier to manage.

Good luck!

We registered for the Britax B-Agile/B-Safe travel system. I like the stroller because it's not as bulky as traditional travel systems and it folds with one hand. The infant car seat also snaps easily into the the stroller and the stroller seems pretty awesome once I don't need the car seat anymore.

i would definitely go with the stroller frame + car seat too. we used that for the first 6 months and then got the city mini.

it really depends where you live and how you use the stroller. we have 4 strollers -- the stroller frame + car seat, city mini, bugaboo bee, and the maclaren quest. we're going to sell the stroller frame, city mini, and eventually the bugaboo bee. then we'll keep the maclaren quest and get a double stroller.

it's really easy to buy and sell stuff used here, so i don't really lose money rotating through so many strollers!

Like @banana, we used a stroller frame with our infant car seat for the first 6 months. I can't recommend this highly enough if you are going to be in and out of the car a lot. A stroller frame is lightweight, doesn't take up much space, and you can transfer a sleeping baby onto the frame without removing them from the seat. Now that the baby is older and out of his infant seat, we primarily use a Maclaren Quest umbrella stroller -- great fold, reclines, lightweight, ideal for travel -- and also have a BOB Ironman for jogging/terrain.

I was so overwhelmed too and worried I would regret whatever stroller I chose. In the end we decided to get the uppababy vista and I'm really hoping I love it...I will feel so horrible if I don't love it. We used the snap and go for the first 5 months bc I wanted more time to figure out what I wanted.

I wanted a stroller that would accommodate 2 kids eventually and would be good for day trips to the park and zoo and a generous basket bc I tend to carry a lot of stuff around.

I have 2.5 strollers!
Maclaren Volo umbrella stroller--We keep it in the car and use it for outings to the mall. Not thrilled with it since it doesn't recline, but my LO isn't a stroller sleeper so I guess it doesn't matter.
Bob Revolution: LOVE it! It's SO smooth and wonderful.
Snap and go: Used it for the first 6 months to snap our infant car seat into. Cheap and convenient.

You really don't need too many strollers until you're LO's older! I don't live in a big city and I only have one. We also carried our LO in the ergo a lot.
Good luck!! :D
I totally remember being overwhelmed by strollers too! I decided to hold off on stroller buying until after LO was born.

I'm planning on getting the uppababy vista. We live in NYC and I've heard it's great for long walks and navigating over sidewalks in all sorts of weather. I also like that it can face in or out, that it has a little foot rest thing that can be pulled up, that it comes with a bassinet attachment (which I plan to use as opposed to a carseat attachment), and that you can attach a rumble seat to it. I've seen that the storage basket is also pretty big. I think it really depends what you'll be doing with the stroller, as @banana said. Will you be walking a lot, driving a lot, carrying it up and down stairs, putting it in the car, etc.

I totally understand how you feel cause I felt like that too! I just decided to use an infant car sesat + snap n go in the beginning (first 6 months) and then slowly figure out what I wanted in a stroller. I went to a local baby products store that had a lot of strollers available for testing and I spent an hour there with my husband, comparing and contrasting different features. I also asked my friends what they liked/hated about their stroller. I think it mainly depends on what your needs are though. Will you be using public transportation? Do you want something light? Will you need a lot of storage? Things like that.

We chose the BOB because we live in a rural area and we knew we'd need the off-road capability. We chose it after a few night's of research and never looked back! :)

(And it's working great for us!)

Don't despair! I guess my only word of advice is to be honest with yourself and choose the stroller for what you are doing most of - are you going to go jogging with the stroller or do you want something for spinning around the mall?

We have the chico keyfit travel system. I loved having the travel system because LO could fall asleep in the car or in the stroller and we could easily transfer her, which is important to me because she was a pretty bad napper. It is pretty bulky, but worth it to me because of the convenience.

Now that she's older we also have an umbrella stroller that we keep in the car. Much lighter and easier on me.

Well, not really. BUT, I am a little overwhelmed by all the stroller options out there. One of my friends told me she has 5 strollers (for context, she has 2 children and we live in a big city)! I don't even know how to begin searching. How did you decide which one(s) to choose and how many do you really need? Which stroller do you love, which do you hate and why? Thanks in advance!
