I think another big determining factor even if you're in the suburbs is how much you'll be using your stroller? I'm a SAHM in the suburbs, but I'm out constantly with LO and use our stroller every single day. I loved having our UBV with car seat attachment since the beginning. We used a Snap N Go for a trip once, and I really did not like "steering" it and fussing with the straps and lifting the car seat to get things from the basket underneath. I'm also glad I'll be able to use this one stroller from newborn till past toddler age if we want.

we opted to splurge on the stroller from the outset, knowing we wanted more than one (probably 3 kiddos) somewhat close together. we got a city select, which is big, but we stored it in our car always since we had no garage and live in a small place. we got the car seat attachment to snap it in. we didn't have room for multiple strollers and we walk a lot of places as well as drive. it definitely was one of the most researched/talked about gear items!

there are also travel systems that come as a package with the stroller and car seat, but i wanted to be able to pick out each item for its own merits.

we liked getting a stroller with a car seat adapter :)
lucie's list helped me so much when I was pregnant with my first! it just kinda explained things in an altogether kinda way. http://www.lucieslist.com/baby-registry-basics/best-infant-car-seats-strollers/

It depends! Some people opt for the whole system in which the car seat matches the stroller is one system. Personally I opted for a less expensive umbrella stroller that has an adapter that works with my infant car seat.

@Charm54: do you have a big trunk? We have a sedan and the ubv takes up at least half the trunk. It's not the weight (though it's heavy) it's the bulk. If we had an SUV with a big trunk I'm sure it would be a lot easier, though still pretty heavy.

I used our UBV with the car seat adapter for the first few months. I live in the suburbs and don't find it too heavy to take in and out of the trunk, especially if it's just the frame+adapter. I think most strollers these days come with the ability to add a car seat so I would pick which stroller you want first then see which car seats are compatible (or buy a complete system if that's what you want!)

Since you live in the suburbs I think the snap and go that you can snap your car seat into is the best option. We had that, plus an uppababy vista with car seat adapter, but we live in the city and walk everywhere- getting the vista in the trunk of our car is a beast. Then you can use the snap and go for a few months then reevaluate your needs.

I bought the snap and go on craigslist for $30.

I used my stroller so so mich on the beginning and i loved having a high quality stroller instead of just a snap and go because it was so much smoother for long walks and i liked being out of the house with lo. We picked out the stroller first and then chose a seat that was compatible. We went with the britax b agile and the britax chaperone infant seat (i wish i had gotten the b safe as it is much smaller!)

ETA : they are really expensive, but for me the amount of time i spent using my stroller (several hours every day for the first 15 months until i got pregnant again and became a pitiful couch potato...but i digress ) it was more than worth it. We skipped a LOT of baby gear and buy almost everything used, but for this we splurged and i totally believe it was worth every penny.

I agree that it all sounds so confusing! We just started looking into strollers and carseats this week and are very overwhelmed. We tried some out at Target today and I can already tell DH is going to be very picky :silly: Looking forward to reading the rest of the responses here!

Many strollers have adapters you can purchase to add on a car seat, so that can be a good option. DH and I got one of the car seat/stroller combos where the two items come together, so the car seat snaps right into the stroller and when LO outgrew the infant seat we could just put him right in the stroller. The stroller is fine - not my favorite, but we knew we wanted kids pretty close together, so I wasn't getting some nice expensive single stroller anyways since I knew we'd need a double in the near future. When it came time to get the double we got a nice one (Double City Mini) and bought the car seat adapter for it that is universal and works with the infant seat we already have.

I went against most people's advice about the Snap and Go and started with the UB Vista as soon as he was born. It's a heavy stroller but I actually had no problem with it, and our car seat snapped directly into the frame.

It's such a short time where you are using the car seat (infant seat) with the stroller. So we just got a cheap snap and go frame to use with our infant seat. We only used it for a few months. After that I bought a UB Vista and used that as my primary stroller. I know the vista and a lot of other strollers have the option to get a car seat adapter so you can use your infant seat with your main stroller frame. I just wasn't sure what stroller I wanted and didn't want to rush into my decision so I waited until LO was older to decide what stroller best fit my needs

Some of my friends chose to get a Snap and Go stroller frame where the infant car seat snaps directly onto the frame. You will have to get another stroller later on if you go with a Snap and Go first.

We have a City Mini and used a Britax B-Safe infant seat. We bought a $20-$25 adaptor for the City Mini. The B-Safe snapped right onto it.

To me, strollers seem like one of the most intimidating things to pick out of all the baby gear. I was at BBB buying some stuff for a friends baby shower and looked at the strollers (i usually avoid them like the plague because they seem so confusing/expensive, but now i'm pregnant so i have to face facts and figure it out).

Some of them it seems like the car seat is part of the stroller and some its definitely not a car seat. In theory, it seems like the car seat hooking into the stroller would be a good idea so you don't have to wake them up to move them to a different seat. If you get a stroller with a car seat do you need to buy a completely separate car seat?

I live in the suburbs and will drive most places.
