1. If you are driving around having a stroller that holds the car seat is great. I didn't like the snap in frames though.

We went with the b ready which is larger BUT the car seat snaps into the frame for those early months not into the stroller seat. So we used it as a frame all the time.

I loved that the bigger stroller was easier to push one handed (while taking on my cell or grocery shopping or holding a drink) cheaper stuff can't do that.

It also has a much smoother ride for things like goin to the park (drive and then walk in). I can't imagine taking a newborn in a snap and go frame to the park it's so bumpy!

We didn't buy a stroller until our oldest was a year old, we just wore her. Then we bought a nice umbrella stroller (UppaBaby G-Lux). Our town is not very walkable (and all our trails aren't stroller friendly), or I probably would have wanted one earlier. It totally depends on your lifestyle and community.

@tororojo: I hear you on storage but still think the snap and go/stroller frame is great for flexibility when LO is itty bitty. Could you try to get a used one and have it live in your trunk? You will probably only use it with car errands it sounds like so it might work. We borrowed one and it has been so convenient!

1- I say yes, because you are in TX and you will drive places and then you won't want to take LO out of the carseat to transfer to baby carrier.
2- Umbrella stroller not before 6 months or so.
3- We had the City Mini and loved it, but part of the reason is because we didn't use the carseat with it, just layed it flat since we walk a lot more than drive. Regardless it is a great stroller, but when I was visiting family in TX I was thinking that a snap and go would have been more useful there.
4- If you have to maneuver a lot, I find the 3 wheeled options a lot easier. If you're mostly just going to be using it in the mall or whatever, then it doesn't matter much.

We borrowed a travel system from a friend. DS hated the car seat and would not hang out in it unless the car was in motion. I hated that crazy contraption of a stroller. I would usually end up carrying him and pushing the stroller with one hand. We did a little babywearing, but I didn't have an Ergo yet so it was pretty uncomfortable.

He had excellent head control at about 2.5 months and we bought a Peg Perego Si. It's similar to an umbrella style, but nicer. It has a removable bar in the front, which made me feel more secure. (I was deciding between the PP and the MacLaren. MacLaren doesn't have a bar but it does lay flat so you could use it from the start.)

For the 3 wheel compared to 4 wheel, I'd say that 4 wheel is better for navigating stores. My SIL has a 3 wheel City Mini and I have used it extensively. While it's easy to push with one hand, I hate how far out the wheel in front protrudes. I always run into things and feel like a klutz. Or maybe I am a klutz.

Next time (hoping for good news soon!!) I plan to just buy a convertible car seat from the beginning. I will use my Ergo with infant insert and then the Peg Perego. If the LO hated the Ergo, I'd probably look for a MacLaren on CraigsList.

we also drive everywhere we go, don't do actual jogs/runs with the stroller, but DO like to go on walks around the neighbourhood, drive to the mall/grocery store, and have VERY little space in our apt.

i also reallly wanted to baby wear early, but my LO didn't take to the sling (maya sling) OR the carrier (beco gemini) until he was 4 months or so.

we bought the city mini with chicco car seat and chicco adapter for the city mini -- not gonna lie it cost a fair bit all together, but we LOOOVEE using it! a previous commenter noted that in the first few months they sleep in their carseat a LOT so it's great to be able to snap them into the stroller and go. Also we do use it a lot in restaurants and roll the stroller up to the table (the whole shebang is pretty compact, so i've never had trouble at most restaurants we've been to! we went to dimsum this morning with it!)

to cut down costs I would recommend you to get a less costly (but great!) graco carseat, purchase the universal carseat adapter for the city mini off craigslist (in my area they always have them on sale for about 30-35$ -- better than brand new at 70$)!

we keep the city mini with adapter attached in the trunk of the car and never bring it into the house. works perfect for us. when we go for walks around the neighbourhood we just pop the trunk on the way out!

sorry for the essay, but i really do love the citymini w/ a carseat! :)

hope you have fun deciding on what is best for you!!

I've been crazy about finding "the one" and perfect stroller for us out there too and I know how it can get overwhelming (well, at least for me).
I think from all the points you've listed, the City Mini sounds like a fabulous choice for you! It's one of the ones I test drove and it was a great little stroller. I would get that (just to have it) and maybe by a car seat adapter from somewhere with a good return or exchange policy. I'm pretty sure the salesperson told me you could also try to put an infant in it at around 3-4 months with an infant insert thing and at a recline. So if you needed a stroller, bam, you'd have it already!
If not, return the car seat adapter!
Personally, I would get stir crazy at home and we drive everywhere too, so I really would want an option of a car seat snapped into some kind of stroller for outings and eating out, etc. when you can't babywear. hth

I'll just answer the first question: I thought I'd want to wear DD once she was born but everyone told me I'd really need a stroller as well. I was a bit skeptical, but my mom bought us a travel system for a gift, so I did end up getting a stroller. We hardly ever used it! We probably used it a handful of times (and never in crowded locations/events), and now it's just taking up storage space. When DS was born, my in-laws bought us a double stroller, and we had the same experience; we hardly ever use it! If our strollers hadn't been gifts, we probably still wouldn't own one.

If you're looking to save money, I think a stroller is definitely one of those items you can hold off on until the baby is born. If your LO hates the carrier, you can always go get a stroller, but if your LO loves babywearing, you probably won't return a stroller bought in advance (even if you hardly use it).

Thanks for all the input!

I am going to check out the B-Nimble this weekend and see what we think (I hadn't noticed this stroller before and the green is so pretty!). We may check out the Quinny Zapp as well, although it seems similar to the City Mini and B-Agile so it may just confuse me more. :) One thing I like about Britax strollers is that they come with adapters for a Britax car seat at no extra charge.

I guess we could always pick out a stroller and just not buy it until we are ready to use it. Still don't think we'll go with a frame, though I have noted that quite a few of you seem to love yours! Hopefully our baby will love being worn, but you girls are right that I can't count on it.

i have found it difficult to find the "one" stroller to fit every stage of the baby's needs. We have been fans of the snap n go until they outgrow the carrier, mainly because it is really convenient to get in and out of the car. We also do a lot of driving, and those travel systems are really heavy. it is really convenient to just pop the carrier in the frame, and they take up no space at all in your home. About the umbrella strollers, I have been using one for my 14 mo old, and I wish it had a snack tray and full recline. My DD looked much more comfortable in her Peg Perego at this age, so I need to get that out again.

friends of ours who have the same situation as you ended up with either the city mini or the b-agile, but be aware the infant car seat adaptors are pricey! almost the same price as a car seat stroller frame.

If I were you I'd try to find a used stroller frame and use that until baby comes. Then you can figure out what you like/need in a stroller once you're using that, THEN purchase the stroller you want. Then you can sell the stroller frame, probably for the same price you bought it!

@tororojo: 1) I did this same thing - and then DS was born and HATED being worn. He finally took to it at 4 months but still for only limited amounts of time. I wish I had invested in a stroller sooner.

2) There are a few strollers out there including the City Mini and my personal favorite, the Quinny Zapp Xtra, that have adapters that will hold your carseat when LO in an infant.

3) I would totally go with an above option and even if you don't end up using it much or even at all, it will retain value if you want to sell it on eBay or craigslist.

4) I don't notice much of a difference of 3 vs. 4 wheels but definitely noticed a difference in high-end vs. cheapie, so try before you buy :)

We have a Peg Perego stroller and car seat that snaps into it. I love it but it's on the expensive side. We also have the Britax B-Nimble which you can put an infant car seat on with either adapter straps or if you have a B-safe infant car seat it snaps right into it. I love that umbrella stroller. It feels really sturdy and I've used it pretty much on every surface except for hiking trails which I'm sure will survive too.

I know you said you don't want a car seat stroller frame but they are cheap and, to be honest, that was the only stroller I used with both of my boys their first year of life. It's lightweight and not bulky at all and they usually have a good-size basket. If you get that you can just sell it when you're done and buy whatever stroller after that.

We have the City Mini and love it! We bought the infant carrier attachment which made it very easy to use with LO (and the infant attachment takes up almost no extra space).

Something you may not have thought about is babies sleep a lot and when they inevitably fall asleep in their car seat its much easier to take the infant carrier out of the car and put it on a stroller than it is to wake up baby, but them in the moby, etc.

We would use the stroller at restaurants (just pushed LO up to the table).

I hope this helps!

we planned to mostly babywear and werent sure which stroller to get and when. we found a graco travel system on sale for $132 so we just bought it for the carseat but we honestly never used the stroller until LO was 3.5 months old when we took her to church. So you could always wait and get it later.but I must admit I liked knowing that we already had the stroller sitting in our closet

2 quick things because I'm nursing and typing with one hand :)

We have the B-Agile and love it. The B-Nimble is a birth+ rated umbrella stroller that the B-Safe and Chaperone can click into to make a travel system. My parents have the B-Nimble and we really like it. It doesn't have great canopy, but that's typical for an umbrella stroller.

1. Yes. You never know if your LO is going to take to baby wearing. My LO didn't like it for more than 30 minutes at a time, at the most. 2. You can't use an umbrella stroller until around 6 months when your LO supports their neck really well and sits up by themselves, so I'd want something better that supports them. 3. We have a travel system, and it's pretty bulky. I wouldn't recommend it for you.

1. I would think that you would still want some sort of stroller that you can use while LO is an infant--what if he/she hates being worn or you're carrying packages, etc. A lot of people get a snap and go, which is a super lightweight, cheap frame that the car seat snaps into. Then, when LO is older, you'll have a better idea of what kind of stroller you need.

2. I would think if you get a sturdy umbrella stroller, like a maclaren or an uppa baby gluxe, you'd be fine with that as your only stroller. I believe those do recline, so you can use them earlier--maybe once LO outgrows the snap and go (don't know what age though).
3. A lot of people love the city mini and the b agile. I would go to a store and try them out in person!

4. I have no idea about this one! :)

I'm just gonna list out my questions. Feel free to answer one, some or all if you have any wisdom! Background: we live near Dallas and drive everywhere we go. Nothing is walkable from home and we don't jog, but we go on walks for exercise sometimes.

1) If we're planning to babywear (Moby initially, then Ergo), is it necessary to buy a stroller before LO is born? The only place I can picture it being useful is the mall, and I don't think I'll head there much with a newborn.

2) If the answer to question 1 is no, then should I wait and buy an umbrella stroller instead of the kind that can hold an infant car seat? (This would be great on the budget, I think) How long (ballpark) until babies have head control enough to sit in a stroller that doesn't lay flat?

3) If I go ahead and buy something now, what is my best option? I don't want a stroller frame--we have very little storage room in our apt. so whatever stroller we get will be our only one. I would like to spend $250 or less if we purchase a travel system-type stroller that will hold an infant carseat but also work as LO grows. I have looked at the City Mini and B-Agile (love the way they fold easily and are lightweight for in/out of trunk), but are there other good options I'm missing?

4) Which is better--4 wheeled strollers or 3 wheeled ones/the kind with 2 wheels close together in the front that function like a 3 wheeled stroller? I hope that sentence makes sense. Is there a functional difference, or is it mainly just aesthetic?

Please help if you can, wise bee moms!
