Thanks everyone, I think for our lifestyle we can skip it!

@T.H.O.U.: Unfortunately this year you can only get the B-safe, and we really want the Chaperone for several reasons. I was kind of bummed to see we couldn't get the Chaperone as part of the free ride.

We have the Orbit stroller, LO slept in the bassinet at home until he was 4 months. We have taken him out for walks in it too, it was a nice change for him since he hated the Orbit infant seat so very very much.

@looch: same! I don't like the idea of having LO in a carseat for walks around the neighborhood. He was an Oct baby in NYC so it was cold, and we used the bassinet exclusively for the first 4.5 months. We also used it for sleeping. We have the ub vista.

I would suggest getting the car seat with the Britax Free ride even because that is your best "deal" (meaning the car seat is worth more than the bassinet).

I will have to say that attaching the bassinet or car seat to the B-Ready frame is a breeze!

We didn't get the bassinet and just used the stroller seat fully reclined as an infant and it worked fine.

Like others I used the UBV bassinet in the house for sleeping. Almost never used it outside the house! So for us it would not be worth it. It came with it though.

We had the UBV and used the bassinet a TON. Liv slept in it her first 4 nights at home (until I got too paranoid bc I couldnt see through it lol) and we used it daily. I will admit I wore her more than she used the stroller, but it got a ton of use regardless

I used the bassinet with the stroller once even though I thought I'd use it all the time (bumbleride flite). But I did use the bassinet as his main sleeping spot for the first 12 weeks. First in our room and then inside his cradle as a cozy spot.

I thought I'd be transferring from the car set to the bassinet, but there was just no way. If he was asleep, there was no way in heck I was going to wake him up trying to do the transfer and if he was awake, he didn't want to be flat on his back in the bassinet. Even at home, where we walk all the time (single family homes, but still a more urban area), I didn't use it.

I did like using it for his sleeping space and he was a great sleeper really early on, so maybe it contributed to that. But overall, the bassinet was a total waste of money for me.

We have the city select and there is a bassinet attachment you can purchase separately but we didnt because we either took the car so we used the car seat attachment or our seat reclined fully so we started putting her in that at about 8 weeks for walks from home. We would have never used the bassinet.

We also had a cosleeper already, so I knew we didn't need it for sleeping, although that could be an option.

i see the bassinet out and about in nyc a lot with the bugaboo and the vista. i think (as it was said above) people who use the stroller as a car, like in manhattan, use the bassinet. when i'm home, which is more suburban/people drive more, i rarely see them used.

@tinyperson: Hmm, I don't see myself going for too many walks around our neighborhood in December. I think we're more likely to drive somewhere, then go inside (like Panera, Target, mall, etc).

It sound like no one really drives and then transfers the baby to the bassinet.

@MrsCB: personally, I wouldn't if I had the b ready because you can turn the entire seat and face it towards you. So, for me that sucks because the agile only faces out and my son likes to see me. So the bassinet is good for that. But, for you, the b ready will turn and face mom anyways! So, that makes the bassinet even more useless. I say if you have a loose budget, do it, but consider it a luxury, not a necessity!

We use our bassinet more than the car seat attachment, and I had a December baby. If you're mainly going from vehicle to mall/store/house, then it's not a big deal to throw a blanket over the car seat and carry them in. If you want to go for a walk outside, remember you're not supposed to put anything between the harness straps of the car seat and baby's clothes (i.e., no snowsuit, jacket, sweaters). If you've got a bassinet, you can put them in a warm snowsuit and add blankets to make them cozy and warm.

The people I know who have used the bassinet the most are people who walk a lot of places and use the car less. My sister lived in NYC in an elevator building, so she used the bassinet WAY more than the carseat until her son outgrew it around 3 months-- she could walk around outside until he fell asleep, them just wheel him inside into the apartment for his nap without disturbing him. He was born in Feb. It's also better for the baby to be in a bassinet for long periods of time than a carseat.

If the baby is going to be in the carseat already, I really do think most people would use that more. We walk everywhere, but have two flights of stairs up to our apartment, so I don't know how much use the bassinet will get. We have an UB Vista, so it came with it, but I probably would have purchased it separately, since I don't take the car out that much.

My stroller was my car and we used the bassinet a lot, almost exclusively for the first 8 months. It was really important to me that my son was lying flat when he was in the stroller and I wanted to limit use of the car seat to when he was in the car because of concerns over airway constriction.

I had a December baby in the Alps, and we were out and about a LOT.

I'll admit we have used the bassinet on our UBV for walks only 2-3 times and that was from our house. Any car ride and I always use the car seat. But, I will say we used our bassinet at home enough for me to justify it. I didn't register for a PnP or any other kind of bassinet. Thought we would put her in the crib straight away. :/. Ended up using the UBV bassinet for her to sleep in for almost 8 weeks. Even now I keep it in our room for setting her down or morning sleep if I'm too lazy to take her back to her room. We also took it on our OOT trip the second time. It was easier than taking the travel crib (at 9 weeks). Not sure how much longer she'll fit in it though.

@TurtleDoves: Yes! We are planning on having 2 kids close together, hence why we like the b-ready so much. I guess that's a good point about 2nd seat costing more! I was just not loving buying a piece of baby gear that we won't use for another 2 years which we have to store and then likely move. But that was what I was leaning towards since we want a different carseat that what you can get free, and I couldn't think of how we'd use the bassinet.

Are you planning on having another within 2.5 years? If so, I'd get the second seat! Make that stroller a double.
The bassinet is always selling for like $85 on sale so many times a year. I would get the $189.00 double seat during the free event!
To answer your question: I like the bassinet. Not a necessity, but a luxury. Very cute too. We have the agile so we can click in our car seat (as can you) and click in the bassinet. Very easy!

I noticed on the thread about strollers without carseats a lot of people seem to like the bassinet attachments. We plan on buying a b-ready next month during the free ride even where we can get a bassinet or a couple other items for free.

I had been debating getting the bassinet, but I'd come to the conclusion we wouldn't get much use out of it, but now I'm wondering if that's true. We'll have a November baby (in Boston), and we live in an area where we drive a lot, so if we were to use the stroller we'd have LO in the carseat, then we'd have to take him out, pull out the stroller and attach the bassinet, and then take him out of the carseat to put him in.

So for all the people who love bassinets, is that because you had summer babies? Can you think of a time that it's convenient to use them, other than walks around the neighborhood?
