We had a Beco Gemini for DH and I had a Beco Soleil. I think DH liked the Gemini just fine. But DS did grow out of it a lot faster. I never really loved the Soleil. It was good because like all buckle carriers it was fairly quick to get him into. The insert was kind of a pain though, and I found it easier to do the blanket trick. But the buckles always dug into me and got uncomfortable after a while. I also was never able to get a comfortable back carry. The buckles at the front always pulled weird. They did it to DH too when I had him try.

My favorite carrier was a wrap conversion mei tai that I bought off of the Facebook swap. If I was to get another buckle carrier I'd want to try out a Tula instead. The buckles have fabric under them so I think they'd dig less. They also have great resale value. You can resell them for practically what you paid, or more if it was an in demand print. I'll be lucky if I get 50% out of the Soleil.

I have been really happy with my Beco Gemini. I have never tried the others you mentioned.

My husband uses a frame backpack more than a soft structured carrier, but he takes our toddler on a lot of hikes.

i have all 3 as well, except my tula is for toddlers so i haven't tried it with a baby but i love it so i am going to trade in my toddler tula for a standard and use it for my next baby.

I used the beco for the longest time with my first baby and had no complaints, absolutely loved it. My DH used it all the time too, he likes it better i think just because he got used to it and never bothered to learn or get comfortable with the style of the ergo/tula. Because the ergo and tula have wider seats, i liked them better as LO got older so i will probably use the beco in the beginning and then switch over at some point to the tula or ergo. I have a feeling i will prefer my tula over ergo, but we'll see. i don't think you can go wrong with any.

I have all the thoughts on this so hopefully it is not too wordy. We love SSC's over here.

My first so was always big he was 15 lbs by 2.5-3 months so we started in the ergo without an infant insert (used moby occasionally before that). The ergo was great and we loved it. We bought a ring sling at about 5 months (22 lbs) for quick up and down carries and used that or the ergo until 10 months by that point he could lean backwards out of the ergo which hurt my back and seemed very unsafe. So we bought a standard Tula and love that still now, though I have purchased a toddler one because at 2 he's almost 30 lbs.

Now baby #2, I traded my ergo for a maya ring sling because we loved them so much the first time and I had the tula which I expected to be able to use around 3 months.....This one is the world's best seat popper so ring slings are uncomfortable quick and she is still just 11.5 lbs at 4.5 months so she does not fit in the tula without an infant insert. So this week we bought a lillebaby which has 6 different carries (forward facing, outward facing, hip, and back plus carries for a squish or a small infant) and so far we love it. Its supposed to go from 7-45lbs (although this seems very high for a non-toddler ssc). For her the narrow seat setting is perfect right now and I can see it expanding with her as she slowly grows.

One final note, ergo have very little resale value so because of that I would lean towards a tula between those 2 choices. Tula's resale typically within $10 of purchase price even once they've been used for quite sometime. No idea about the resale of lillebaby or boba.

If you have any questions let me know. :)

Tula's are expensive (unless price isn't really a concern), so I'd try to find a local babywearing group to see if you can try one on first. Otherwise, I think Ergo's are a pretty safe bet! I have the original and the 360, and I actually like the original better since it's softer/more floppy. The 360 is great for facing out once in a while, but I don't think it's totally needed.

I didn't like the Beco b/c I didn't like crossing back straps, and I didn't like the buckle where you have to un-buckle with two hands.

I have an Ergo Original and I love it! I definitely think you should try these carriers on to see what fits your body the best. There are lots of other brands as well, like Lillebaby and Lenny Lamb, that make SSC's, so you might want to look into those as well.

I highly, highly recommend the lillebaby. It has a ton of back support and you can forward face a lot longer than with the Ergo 360.

@raintreebee: I just got the Ergo 360- sad I missed out on a deal! I had the Boba 4G but my baby HATES facing inward and I really wanted to be able to carry her and not always use the stroller. I find the Ergo 360 to be slightly easier to put on/take off. I feel like it's a lower profile structured carrier- not as many buckles and straps to deal with, which I also really like. I don't mind the velcro band around my waist, either, which I know turns some people off.

I wondered about a pocket as well @youboots: I suppose you could tuck something like keys in the zippered hood if it is not in use?

I say go for it! You really can't beat it if its on sale! :)

@youboots: Thank you! I may be able to get one from a friend, but if not I may take you up on that!

@Alivoo01: Thanks! I haven't really investigated the Lillebaby. It looks cool, and the criss-cross straps may mean it is easier to get on.

@Littlebit: Good advice. There is no where near me in Brooklyn that has these carriers, but I may have to venture into Manhattan to try them on!

It may help you to try them on - different carriers fit babies and bodies differently. I've heard great things about Ergo, but I've personally never tried. I love our Tula.

I only have the Ergo (original) and loved it!! It's super easy to put on and adjust by myself.

I do love that the 360 allows FF and is more compact in its design, but I've heard some people complain that it's not as easy to put on by yourself and that the velcro belt is loud/annoying to adjust.

I've recently heard about Lillebaby and it looks awesome!! I might have given that a go if it was available back when I first bought my Ergo. It combines the original Ergo and the 360 it seems, and does not require an infant insert while also allowing FF! Check it out!

@raintreebee: If a size M k'tan would work for you I'd be happy to lend you mine. Wall me if you are interested. I got it here on the HB classifieds and my original ergo was free from my sister it was nice to have a little variety and not have to pay a fortune.

I have all three (although standard Ergo). The Ergo is my favourite, but I love that you can use the Beco without an insert for a newborn. We're using that now and will switch to the Ergo when he's bigger

@youboots: Thank you! Very helpful. I also was thinking about a k'tan for newborn stage. Is the Ergo easy to put on and take off yourself? That was my main gripe with the Boba--I always felt like I needed someone else to help me with it!

I really love the Ergo 360 we just started using it 2 weeks ago, more than the standard which we have also. I loved the k'tan for outward facing around 4 mo, but now that she is 17 lbs there is no way.

My only gripe (correct me if I'm wrong) is that there does not seem to be a pocket. With the original I could throw a diaper, a few wipes, keys, wallet and cell phone in the carrier and not have to carry a diaper bag.

Hi All,

I found babywearing difficult with my first. I had a neck injury, it was the middle of winter, and I never loved my carrier (a Boba). With the second, I figure babywearing will make my life a lot easier so I better give it a shot. I am thinking about trying out other ergonomic carriers. Any comparative thoughts on the Ergo 360 v. Beco v. Tula (the structured ones that aren't sold out all the time!). The Ergo 360 is 20% off right now at Giggle so I am leaning that way, although everyone raves about Tulas. Would love everyone's thoughts. I find this subject so intimidating!
