Thanks for the support everyone. It helps to hear that it isn't just me and be reminded that it gets better.

@catomd00: Good ideas. I am focused at work while at work but I could definitely do a better job of focusing on one project at a time. QA checks are important. I forgot that I implemented a lot of that after LO1. I'll build those back in.

I totally get this. I found removing distractions helped. I didn't have kid pics at my desk and I removed Facebook from my phone. Just being able to get in the zone and focus while I was there helped. It was a mindset for me. I'd get out of the office at lunch and come back ready to work again. It definitely is easier once you're getting more sleep. Hang in there, it will get better. Try to slow down, take your time to minimize mistakes, make checklists (I had to make lists of stuff to QA so i wouldn't forget to check for errors) and ask for some help if you need it.

Ugh. I'm totally with you on the ramp up program. Our country is so uneducated about what a working mother needs to get back into the workforce successfully. And it does benefit the entire country for women to continue having babies (we will nees the work force one day), raise them well (see: work force), and stay in the work force themselves (guard against divorce or early spousal death with no means to support family, needing govt. Benefits).

@Corduroy: It does get easier. I became a much better employee when I was getting enough sleep. I'm sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed. To some degree, I'm feeling it too, but as long as you are doing your best, you cannot ask for much more. It will get better.

@Corduroy: I don't have really good advice but I just wanted to send you a hug and tell you you are not alone. I majorly struggled at work after my first and my brain is pretty much gone after two babies. And sleep deprivation makes everything so hard. I'm so sorry and I hope some of the current working moms will have great tips for you.

How have you dealt with it when your work load is more than you can manage? Especially if you feel you *should* be able to manage it because you used to or because other people do.

I've been with my company 4 years and I have a good reputation. After coming back to work post LO2 I just cannot keep up.

I have more work than I have time and I have no time outside of 7:30-4:30 to get any work done. My co-workers and the woman I supervise are all working later and getting more done. Since I'm not sleeping I'm also making a lot of mistakes which makes me more behind. I feel like I'm dragging the team down and it sucks.

I went through this to a degree with LO1 but now the stakes are higher. For some stupid reason my subordinate cannot get a promotion that she really deserves until I get one so I feel like I'm majorly F-ing things up for her. She needs the money.

I keep telling myself this is a phase. The kids will sleep soon. This horribly managed project I'm working on (no objectives, no timeline, no profit) will move off my plate eventually. I just need to do my best and only my best for now.

But what if my best ruins my reputation in the meantime?

I wish there was some ramp up maternity leave re-entry program. Part time doesn't seem like the right solution because I'd just be paid for fewer hours and working just as much.
