@Pumpkinspice: Great news! I'm glad they were able to set your mind at ease that this is normal. My doctor basically told me -- when I freaked out about the 2 whole readings I had over 140 -- that the baby's condition is a reflection of your blood sugar level as a whole, not individual numbers. So you're allowed higher readings now and then -- what they look for is super high readings multiple times a day, every day. So I wouldn't worry too much about having damaged anything!

@mizjl: Aww thank you!
And that does help. I was really down on myself until this appt. But, she made me feel so much better. Also said that they try to steer clear of insulin and is really confident oral meds will be ok **fingers crossed**

@Pumpkinspice: Wow that's so good to hear! Those hormonal surges are just killer and it sounds like you're handling it really well. Since I went on insulin, my dosage has actually been increased a couple of times, but in very tiny amounts so it hasn't bothered me thus far - I think it's more of a mental thing for me, like I can't hack it.

But honestly, the needles are nothing, very thin and short that I wonder if the insulin even gets anywhere! If you ever had to do it (knock on wood), there's really nothing to worry about. I keep hearing that the finger pricks are worse than the syringes, but neither of them bother me... so maybe it's just my high pain tolerance. :) Good luck, and don't forget you're doing the best you can! (I know it helps when my husband tells me this so hopefully it has the same effect on you.)

Well, my appt went really well. I'm def surprised.
She said that it's normal around this time for sugar readings to get out of whack since normally GD isn't diagnosed until 28 weeks.
So, she doubled my meds and we went over some more nutritional things but I've now gained a total of 5lbs so they are confident I am doing all I can with diet.
I'm relieved that she's ok and I'm really doing all I can. I still go back next week as planned to make sure the new dosage is working well.

@mizjl: Aww thanks!
I've been diagnoised since 11 weeks and I've been on oral meds at night for my resting sugars since 19 weeks. As long as my rest sugars are lower than 95 my OB is happy but lately I'm struggling to keep them down at all.
I see the dr tomorrow now instead of next week and I'm kinda scared they will put me on insulin and shooting myself with needles daily isn't my idea of fun. lol

Oh gosh I feel for you. I was diagnosed with GD at eight weeks and put on bedtime insulin when I was about 9+ weeks along because no matter what I did/didn't do/ate/etc. I could never get my fasting numbers under control. I'm only about 13w right now and my fastings still quite aren't where I want them to be, though I'm holding steady at just under 90, so I'm not looking forward to hormonal changes - maybe that's what you're going through?

I heard at some point that your hormones will stabilize, so your sugars wouldn't be so hard to control, but what do I know... I'm much further behind than you (and I'm sure the worst is yet to come for me). :) I hope everything turns out well and I just wanted to say I totally sympathize. Good luck!

@2PeasinaPod: To be honest. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat. I can eat the same thing and one day it's fine and the next it's through the roof. I'm sticking with proteins and lean meats like advised.
I was told when I went on meds that I'd have to increase my dose at some point and we'd have to wait and see when that was needed.
The specialist said he didn't think there was anything I was doing wrong but that sometimes it's not easily controlled with diet and exercise.
Idk just frustrated.

I'm sorry you're getting high readings. I also had GD and was really trying to make sure I kept my sugar levels in check with diet and exercise.

'm going to say that even a 10 minute walk will help your sugar levels. If you could maybe just walk around your floor for a little while right after your eat. Exercise is key with GD.

Are you also keeping a log of what you eat, and what's causing more spikes? Can you give us an idea of what you're eating on a day to day basis? Maybe we can help with substitutes.

@banana: I haven't really because my work schedule doesn't really allow for it. I mean I work til 7pm each night. I can't really do much walking while at work and after I get home it's dark so I don't wanna go outside. Idk. I'll see what I can do on that end.
I'm just so frustrated.

Ugh. Sorry you have to go through this. I had GD with both my pregnancies and it wasn't fun (though I did like that I didn't have to lose much weight post partum!) Have you tried putting in exercise into your routine? Walking 20 minutes after meals DEFINITELY helped a lot.

@autumnlove: @ladyfingers: Thanks ladies!
And I'm 24 weeks. I've had a couple numbers into the 200's which really bothered me. But out of 31 readings 16 were high. That's just not ok.

I feel you. While my situation isn't exactly like yours -- I'm not on meds and I was more freaking out that my readings were nearing the 140s that would put me on meds -- they did eventually stabilize. How far along are you, I can't remember? My doctor just said that numbers will start to get wacky the further along I get but that after 32ish weeks should stabilize.

Anyway, I know what it's like to constantly be watching the numbers and wonder what on earth I'm doing wrong. Sometimes I'll get a 100 and then I'll eat the exact same thing at the same time the next day and get a 140. I got really depressed about it but then decided to focus more on being of sound mind for the baby, and letting my doctor worry about my numbers. I am sure that no matter what, the doctor will be able to help you get your numbers under control and baby will be fine :)

Ugh, I'm not perfect with my GD but who is?
I'm not eating stupid stuff or being careless. I'm taking my meds nightly as prescribed. But, the past 10 days I've had more high readings then normal. It's gotten to the point that I'm getting readings well over 200 and it's scaring me because I don't know what to do.
I've called my OB and am waiting for a call back. I'm just really bummed out because even when I'm following it perfectly lately I can't get normal numbers. Ugh
Just needs to vent.
