It sounds like you are leaning toward #2 to begin with. Go with your gut! (Says the person who can never make a decision on her own... Do as I say, not as I do.)

@Freckles: We are moving this weekend and plan to keep her at her current school for a couple weeks after so she can get transitioned to her new house a little first. And she'd then get to stay where she is through her birthday (which would be her last day). She would then start at the new place the week of Thanksgiving, so it would be a short week.

Good to hear your LO is doing better with the change. I think we are leaning towards #2 with the hope that a little more structure and discipline will be a good thing!

Turnover and chaos are big red flags to me. I don't necessarily believe in super structured or academic type settings for preschool, and certainly there should be flutters of activity and the classrooms should feel busy...but there is a difference between busy and chaotic. Also, I like that they separate the mobile and non-mobile babies. When there are that many little ones it is a lot less stressful (as the teacher) if you don't have to worry about a crawling 8 month old getting too close to a 2 month old on a blanket. :)

I would go with #2. Lunchtime should be less chaoti because they are all sitting down! Would you be able to have a week off in between daycare centres? I wonder if the transition would be harder going straight to a new centre.

My DD has been doing so much better at her new preschool, which is more structured and has a more "school" setting. Her old daycare was good when you're an infant/toddler but I always found it loud and chaotic. The new school fits her much better.

@Corduroy: Yes, she will! I didn't make that clear, sorry!! Both have infant rooms. Option 1's room is the usual 6wks to 1yr room while Option 2 splits them into two (non-mobile and crawlers/walkers).

Would LO2 attend the same center as LO1 for either option? Looks like maybe just in option 2. If so, I would choose to keep them together.

I picked 2. What you mentioned about the turn over rate is concerning. Also, I know that I would have the half wall distracting and over stimulating as an adult so I couldn't imagine being 3 with it. As a teacher, I also like the idea of a school like setting.

Curious to know what others would choose in this situation. I have an almost 3yo and am due with my 2nd in March. LO is currently at a daycare we really like, but we are moving just a couple towns over and will need to switch. We are torn between two options for different reasons.

A bit about LO -- She is still rather attached to me and will still have rough drop offs at her current daycare, so I'm really dreading this move. She has become a threenager and has been throwing major tantrums lately when she doesn't get what she wants. She is semi-potty trained. She has to be told to go (and will sometimes resist) but has been accident free on most days. She's a smart little girl but I'm wondering if she's getting to the point where her daycare should be a little more school-like than it is now.

Added a poll, if easier.

Option 1:
- Same chain as current daycare, perhaps an easier transition.
- She could go straight to their preschool program with no problem. Kids don't have to be fully potty trained.
- Teachers and center director seem very nice and approachable, but I believe this location has a higher turnover than her current center. I've heard the teachers aren't as "invested" in the kids as are the teachers at her current location.
- Preschool and up have open concept classrooms at this particular location (half wall dividing preschool and pre-k). We toured around lunchtime and it was chaotic. My husband stopped over another time during classroom time and said it was better, but it still seems a little distracting to me.
- Location slightly more convenient than option 2.

Option 2:
- Center appears a bit more updated. Outdoor playground is being renovated and has a small indoor playroom for winter and rainy days.
- Preschool classroom seems much more structured and school-like.
- Have to be fully potty trained for preschool. She may have to start in early preschool until she's 100% or she could start in preschool and possibly have to move back if she isn't doing well.
- Center director doesn't seem quite as friendly. We only met the preschool teacher who, while I think she will be a good teacher, didn't seem to be as nurturing as the teachers at her current center have always been.
- Two infant rooms - one for non-mobile and the other for mobile babies.
- Infant rate should be about $100/mo less. Preschool rate is about the same.
- Location is a bit further, maybe 5 minutes.
