@MsBAM: This sounds familiar and we went through something similar between 9-12 months. Enough to give me a little ptsd. After 12 months, I felt the payoff for introducing him to so many foods because now he’s a good little eater most of the time (17 months). He still loves his puffs! Lol. When he was in his super picky phase, we would sneak in the purée (mostly homemade) on a puff or mum-mum. Sometimes even a spoonful with a puff on it. It worked!

Also find one non-goodie thing he likes and won’t readily reject and build off of that. My DS loved plain yogurt during this time (still does!) so we mixed all kinds of veggie purées with it (half and half on the spoon).

So my advice is to get a little creative and also relax. It’s worth it to keep figuring out ways to get the tastes of this and that in there, but their food behavior is weird and unpredictable!

Well, he ate 4 pieces of cheese today. That is huge for him since I’ve been offering it for months!!!

@MsBAM: Like frozen fruit in the mesh feeder, frozen breastmilk popsicle, etc. Or just a frozen wash cloth. Maybe if he can gnaw on that before meal time his gums will feel okay to eat?

@snowjewelz: I hope so! He has one tooth possibly coming in. But he’s gonna have 8 teeth after this one comes in at 9mo. What kind of frozen stuff can I give him?

@cake2017: @Ajsmommy: Yep he still nurses. No issues there. I give cereal in the morning too. But he’s been eating less of the purees than usual and sometimes none if he doesn’t want to open his mouth! I offer a variety of table food too at lunch and dinner (bread, cheese, cooked veggies, fruit, etc). I’ve offered pasta and rice before too and he wasn’t interested.

@Mrs. Carrot: I’ll keep offering. I usually offer purée and table food at each meal. I feel like it’s so much work to do both for a baby that won’t eat any of it lol but I know he has to learn and explore. Do you think he could be rejecting food because he wants the goodies?

Ack, my DS is like this. He is soo picky. He just turned one and he rejects so many foods!! Even foods he liked yesterday he'll reject like your poisoning him today. I just try to offer him a lot of options and go with the flow. He seems to like to snack more than eat a big meal so I just try to give him stuff through out the day. He still wakes once a night for a feeding (bottle) which dr said I should try to cut but I cut it by 2 oz and he was sooo mad. Anyway I am just going with the flow and if he's hungry I give him snack/food or bottle during night.....

My daughter went through phases like this, and it really helped me to remember that at this age, food beyond breastmilk/formula is not really for nourishment/sustenance, but for fun and learning, so he's not going hungry if he's getting sufficient liquid nourishment. Keep offering different things and it'll stabilize eventually.

Does he still drink breastmilk or formula? You can always increase the amounts there and just give alittle purée. My LO is the same age. He’s primarily on breastmilk and I give cereal in the morning and a fruit or veggie in the afternoon. Teething has slowed the process but this is all for fun anyway.

I was gonna say teeth too. My 15 mo old generally loves to eat but she's also been more affected by teething than my 1st. So when she's not eating/sleeping but not sick, it has to be teeth! Maybe give some frozen stuff to chew on?

@codeitall: I hope that’s what is causing this. I know he has one tooth coming in right now. I just gave him his cereal this morning mixed with fruit and he only had 3 or 4 baby spoon fulls. He refused to open his mouth after that. He used to eat almost all of it. I hope this passes soon. I’d say it’s been at least a couple weeks maybe a bit more.

I literally just had this food rejection and was puzzling over it for a couple weeks. Only eating bread and puffs, everything else was just played with. Turns out she was teething. And I even checked a few times but somehow missed the swollen gums till they were poking out! Ugh.

Rest assured, this is going to happen over and over again :) Kids are picky eaters that go through phases. I'd say give anything a month. As long as they are getting their calories somewhere I wouldn't worry. After all, food before 1 is mostly for fun. Their nutrition is primarily formula/breastmilk.

If you are worried about calories still, try sticking peanut butter in cheerios or other cereal, and adding coconut cream or avocado to everything.

Hi all,

My LO is 9 mo and he was taking purees well before but as of late, he’s not taking purees as well and barely eats any of the table food I give him. The only table food I can guarantee he will eat is bread and Cheerios or any kind of baby snacks (mums, puffs, etc). Anything else he just plays with and doesn’t try to eat it. I make his purees but buy the jars just for meat. I noticed that he’ll eat the jars more easily than anything I make lately... but it’s hard to even get him to eat the first spoonful and then once he figures out he likes it he’ll keep eating it... so I’m thinking maybe I should just try getting all jar food?!?! I don’t know! He’s also still on stage 2 (6m) because he rejects stage 3.

I keep offering table food over and over but nothing and it sucks that he’s even rejecting purees more often too. I’ve been making him smoothies to try and make up for his lack of eating.

Any suggestions or similar experiences?
