I don't have a lot of advice because we're not there yet but can you try taking her outside in the late afternoon to see if that helps? Maybe a run around might just help to tire her out a wee bit.

@zippylef: so if she goes down at 830 she sleeps til 830. What time are you starting bed time? Maybe just start it at 830 now. Or wake her up at 730 if you want an earlier bed time. Tell me about early wakings....630 is sleeping in in my world!!

@winniebee: I am so not a morning person, so Im being a whiner about waking her up early. lol. She actually has cut down her nighttime sleep already, from 14 hours to 12 most nights. She NEEDS 12 hours of sleep or else she's a total pill. She does better with no/little nap than she does with less night sleep.

@T.H.O.U.: I tried back rubbing the other night and Im not sure how much good it did. :/

Ugh. Maybe Im going to have to try pushing her bedtime back even further.

that sounds so rough! do you think maybe she is ready for a little bit of a later bedtime? say 8pm to 8am? I know my LO will rub her eyes and be cranky, but when I try to put her to bed too early she just plays and stuff.

Also to add, we still stay in her room and rub her back until she falls asleep (usually only 5 minutes). She has to be laying down nicely otherwise we leave the room, but if she lays down nice, we stay and rub her back.

@T.H.O.U.: See we've already moved her bedtime back from 6:30 to 7:30 most nights because of this. Some nights, she is cranky and obviously tired (like tonight) and she STILL wont sleep.

@winniebee: I feel like setting my alarm and waking her up is going to be something I HAVE to do. She woke up between 8 and 8:30 every morning like clockwork for the longest time and her sleep was great then.

Ive just been enjoying getting to sleep in. lol

@zippylef: Have you tried just letting her stay up? All I know is that ever since 14 months, my LO will only sleep 10 hours at night (on a good night, usually more like 9) plus a 2-2.5hr nap. Its much less then the recommended hours. We just moved her bedtime back to 8:30 and it seems to be helping. Our schedule now looks like:

6am - Wake up
12-2 - Nap (sometimes a bit earlier or later)
7:30 - Wind down with books and tv
8:15-8:30 Bedtime.

How do you feel about waking her up earlier for the day around 730 and moving her nap to 12 so that she is up by 230 and you can kust start putting ber down at 730. Maybe she's just not tired enough for bed? My lo (14 months) usually needs 4 hours of awake time before bed or he will roll around and play for awhile before falling asleep.

@looch: I feel like she would just climb out of the bed and scream on the floor. :/ Plus, she's only 15 months old!

Our bedtime routine is pretty flexible. We used to have a really strict one and did bath/PJs/bottle, then she developed dry skin and now its more like dinner/play time/PJs/bottle, sometimes we read her a story and a couple times a week she gets a bath. We've really been lax about it recently.

No advice :( We've been having sort of the same issue. My LO has the exact same sleep schedule, but a few months ago she also started fighting bed time. Luckily she's never upset about it, she just plays and talks and rolls around in her toddler bed. We've just let her do it.... it can last an hour and a half! But we figure if we take her out of the bed she'll never fall asleep. And it's not like she's not tired, this happens during the busiest days too. She only has nap problems if she poops, otherwise she's usually right down.

What is your bedtime routine? My son was never a good sleeper, but I also broke every rule until I figured out what worked.

It might be that she's rebelling against the crib, what about trying a toddler bed? I know it is early and you might not be ready for it, I wasn't!

C was a very easy infant when it came to sleep. She STTN very early on with only 1 wakeup. We used CIO at 6 months to swaddle wean her, after which she started sleeping 12-14 hours straight through every night. We hit a rough patch 8-10 months due to international travel and general issues but we were back on track at 10 months old, STTN as usual. Some nights she would cry a bit before sleeping, but most times she would talk herself to sleep quietly and go down fairly easily.

These issues started when she turned 1. She started fighting her afternoon nap HARD, so we went to 1 nap. Her schedule looks roughly like this:

8am- Wakeup
1-3/3:30- Nap
7/7:30- Bedtime

THEN she started sleeping in a lot. She got sick and started sleeping in until 9 or even 10am. After that, she started fighting bedtime, which is the current HUGE issue we're facing. She has turned into a massive, horrible sleep fighter. She always fought naps hard, but never bedtime. Now it's opposite.

She will stay up for up to 2 hours after bedtime, sometimes talking, sometimes playing, sometimes crying. At first, we just let her go, thinking she would get the memo and stop staying up like that. No dice. Then, we tried going in and laying her back down and leaving. Sort of worked. Things improved a tiny bit. Then she progressed to throwing full-on fits before bedtime. So, my husband started going in and picking her up to calm her down and then putting her down.

I just got done fighting her for 2 hours and Im not totally sure she's even asleep now, she's just not screaming anymore. Today, she woke up at 8:30, took 1 nap from 1-3:15 and then we put her down at 6:45 because she was yawning, rubbing her eyes and cranky. She screamed until 8:30 when I went in for a 2nd time, picked her up and then gave her some milk. I think she might be asleep now.

Im so done. I thought at first it was teeth. She has sprouted 6 teeth in the past 3 months and is working on the last 2 molars as we speak. Im not so sure thats the issue now. :(

I dont know what to do and I cant go on like this. I feel like my husband and I have effed everything up royally by going in and picking her up. Ive come to suspect that she waits for us to come in before going to sleep now. Once she's asleep, it's all good and she's out like a light for 12 hours. It's just the getting her to go to sleep that's torture.

Advice?
