@rahlyrah: LO clusterfed mostly when we were just learning. As long as he wasn't going bonkers, I just kept him at the breast. If he got super agitated, I'd give him a bottle. We spent many evenings sitting on the couch with DH and LO would just nurse and nurse and nurse. (DH always took it as a sign that he wasn't getting enough by nursing since LO could suck down a bottle in 5 minutes, when DH fed him.)

I don't BF but A has been STTN since around 6 weeks as well. I thought it was a fluke too and didn't want to get my hopes up. She started sleeping 9 to 4 and then 8 to 5 and now we are consistent with 9 to 7am. She gained 3 lbs last month so STTN hasn't effected her weight gain at all.
She is 16weeks.

@rahlyrah: I would think you can, but I don't have experience with having BF and then a bottle. So I wouldn't want to say either way cause I wouldn't want to mess up anything for you. How often does he eat now?

@Smurfette: @Adira: We just started BFing again and I don't even produce enough for a full feeding. I usually give him a bottle. Can I still cluster feed with a low supply and a baby who doesn't transfer well? I feel like that might make things worse.

@Pepper: Definitely let him sleep! My pediatrician said it's normal for their weight gain to slow once they start STTN though, so be aware that he might drop in percentile, but as long as he's having a good amount of wet diapers and is still gaining weight, you should be good! Maybe pump if your boobs are killing you?

@rahlyrah: I second @Smurfette's suggestion of cluster feeding (if you aren't doing it). It's the only thing that worked for us to get Xander to give us some longer stretches.

@Pepper: I always thought it was a fluke, too! I wouldn't accept his sleeping longer until it lasted about a week. I definitely agree to let him sleep. If A only eats on one side after his early morning waking I will sometimes go pump to make sure the other side is being stimulated, too. Now at 8 weeks he goes from about 8:00pm to 5:00am before waking and my breasts are just starting to realize it.

Same here!! LO slept from 830-5 last night and it was amazing! She cluster feeds in the evening to tank up, so I'm not worried about her weight; she's been sleeping longer and longer over the last week but still has plenty of wet dipes. Hooray for our babies!!! And us getting to sleep!

Providing your LO is still nursing 8-10 times a day (the LLL recommendation) then he should still gain weight so let him sleep and enjoy it while it lasts :-)

Also your supply should regulate after a few days of longer stretches of sleep!

So all of a sudden, LO is basically sleeping through *most* of the night! He fell asleep at 10:00 last night after I fed him and we put him to bed. I assumed he'd wake up around 1 am wanting to eat. Well I woke up at 3:30 because my boobs were killing me and he was STILL sleeping! I ended up waking him up to eat because I was afraid to let him sleep that long without eating.

Do babies lose weight once they start sleeping for long stretches? This is the second or third night he's done this. Should I just let him sleep as long as he wants? He's 6 weeks old. I'm also kind of nervous about my supply taking a hit if this is just a fluke thing!
