Get the S2. It's awesome

I believe lactation consultants can test your old pump for you.

I EBFed LO1 and LO2 for 12+ months. I also WFT, so I did a lot of pumping!

My freestyle from LO1 worked for LO2 also. I had no issues at all. My insurance gave me a new freestyle when LO2 was born. I kept it in the box and donated it after I weaned LO2.

@ShootingStar: I used my Freestyle with LO1 and LO2 and didn't notice a difference.

With the setup of the Freestyle I don't think new tubing and flangs etc. make too much sense since they don't wear as much as the typical membranes in the manual or PISA models do.

Hmm. I only used mine for about 4ish months last time. DS was about 6 months old when I stopped pumping and I didn't really use it the first 2 months. And I never steamed them, but they did get washed in the dishwasher. I'll have to pull them out and see how they're doing. I think the horns are probably fine, but maybe I'll get new flanges and membranes.

@gingerbebe: Yes! I love that the membranes and stuff are a bit more durable than the PIS but still after pumping and washing for a 10 months I knew they needed to be replaced!

Yes get all new parts!! I love my Freestyle but the flanges and membranes definitely got warped over time (don't steam them in the microwave!!!) I got all new tubing and parts.

@ShootingStar: Yes, I would buy new flanges and stuff. I wasn't concerned about the tubing but for some reason I got a new set.

I think maybe I got a set like this and used my amazon registry discount:

I still kept my spare parts at my desk at work just in case.

@Adira: @travellingbee: LOL

@PawPrints: Insurance will cover all of the plug in model I'm interested in (Spectra S2), and I think that's all I need if my Freestyle still works the same. But if the Freestyle isn't good any more, I'll get the Spectra S1 which has a battery, but it has a $65 upcharge. It's not that much money, it's just not really necessary for me to have two battery powered pumps.

@T.H.O.U.: You can all new flanges and tubing and everything? I wasn't planning on that, lol.

There is a test you can do but you have to buy this gadget to test the suction power. Not really something you do at home.

I used my freestyle just fine for pregnancy #2. I did get new parts just so that I knew I had a tight fit.

Not sure there's anyway to test it, and even if you could, testing it now might not mean it'll still work a few months from now. My pump that I used with #1 died while I was on maternity leave with #2. It sucked. :(

I don't think there is any way to test it, but I got a new one from insurance and use my old one as back up (I leave one at work and one at home). The old one still seems to work great. No issues here.

Okay, so this is probably a really dumb question. I have a Freestyle that I used with LO1 and I plan to use that plus a new pump with LO2. I've heard sometimes pumps aren't as effective the 2nd time around. Is there anything I can/should do to test it out to make sure its still in good working condition? I mean, I can turn it on but I obviously shouldn't be pumping at 24w.

If I can't use my Freestyle, or if doesn't work as well as it used to, I'd like to get another battery powered pump. If it works fine, I'll get a plug in one and save the extra $65. So I'd like to figure this out before I order the new pump.

Is there anything I can do, or anything I should be looking for with my old pump to make sure it still works well?
