I would just give him time. Keep trying a variety of different things. What's his favorite purée maybe try that in solid form?
It can be he's just not ready yet for BLW as well.

We started with purées and slowly made them chunkier then graduated to small chunks of food. M absolutely loves food so took to it right away. She's primarily BLW right now and will often refuse purées!!!

Just remember up till their 1 it's all for fun & experimentation anyway so it doesn't matter how much they actually eat!

Thanks for the input. DS is loving the purees too, so he's definitely got an appetite for food. I guess I'll have to give him some time and carry on giving him the chance to try on his own. I can see a lot of food on the floor in my near future!

Apparently they just need a while to figure it out, and one of the premises of BLW is to not force it. If your son isn't ready, then just try again in a couple of weeks. That being said, we gave up on our plans for BLW when I discovered that DD was absolutely thrilled to eat purees out of a spoon. She loves being spoon fed, and I didn't want to take that away from her. Now at 9 months she is starting to eat more finger foods, but she still loves her purees!

DS is 6 months and I have been very excited about starting solids and watching DS try new flavours and textures. I'm doing a mix of purees and BLW, I believe it's important for DS to learn to feed himself so will let him experiment with eating himself but also feed him purees once a day or so.

The point where my BLW ambitions come to a screeching halt is when I place food in front of DS. So far he has shown absolutely no interest in eating the food or even putting it in his mouth. I've tried carrot and cucumber sticks and some broccoli florets and he might pick it up, bang on the table or throw on the floor but not even try to eat. He puts plenty of other things in his mouth.

So, my question is how do I make DS understand he's supposed to eat the food? Is this how BLW starts or is he just not ready yet, should I put the food in his mouth for him or just let him figure it out? Are there any cues I can use to signal its eating time (like a sleep sack might signal it's bed time)? At the moment I don't think DS sees a difference between the empty box of tissues he loves to bang on the dinner table and the steamed carrots I serve...

Thoughts and suggestions are most welcome!
