@SeptMomma12: We actually showed the video to our pediatrician and he wrote us a referral to a speech therapist. I talked to the speech therapist and she agreed that we needed to do something very soon, rather than waiting a year. But, I wanted to wait until we got her new tubes put in her ears before doing it. We got the tubes in 1.5 weeks ago and there's a huge difference (for the better) in her speech.

@BabyBoecksMom: I just came on here to post a very similar question and saw your post from a few weeks ago. Did you end up doing anything?

@MommySLP: Thanks. We really don't draw attention to it. We let her take her time to say whatever she's trying to say. I just want to take care of it now (if we need to) so that other kids don't start picking up on it (and potentially teasing her for it)

Colin has started stammering over his words a bit. I think his brain is just working in overdrive and his mouth and mind aren't working at the same speeds. I know that here, most speech language pathologists will do a free consult, so it may be worth a call even just for reassurance.

@BabyBoecksMom: I watched the video, and it does seem like she is doing a type of "stuttering" called a prolongation. However, under 4-5 yrs old, this is very typical because their language systems are developing so rapidly. It doesn't look like she has any secondary behaviors (eye blinking, or other physical behaviors) so honestly I would wait 6 months or so to see if she grows out if it. It's likely a speech pathologist wouldn't even really see her at this point, but you can always get an eval done. It's important that you don't draw attention to it or necessarily even make her repeat things. I would just talk about using slow (turtle) speech and model slow rate of speech. Hope this helps!

DD1 has recently started stuttering. At first we just thought it was cute and that it was a normal part of learning to talk. However, over the past 6 months, it's become worse and now almost every sentence starts with a stutter. It's not the typical "t" or "s" sounds, though, it's more of the "oo" and "air" sounds. And I can see that she'll change pitch and even try different ways to say what she's trying to say.

I haven't found much with other experiences in this. I showed our pediatrician video of her trying to say some words and he agreed that it sounded like we could benefit from going to speech therapist.

I'm just curious if anyone else has had this.

ETA: Here's here the video of her trying to say "do you..."
