Phew so no missed daycare for Charlie!

My LO had pink eye and they gave him some eye drops and said after 24 hours he could be around other kids. It luckily never actually bugged him and it cleared up really quickly.

My LO has had pinkeye a couple of times (always related to an ear infection). Her symptoms were red rimmed eyes, pinkish tint to the white of her eyes and yellow discharge/gunk all over her lashes.

Good news was that after 24 hrs on eye drops she was able to return to daycare. Bad news is putting eye drops in a squirmy infant/toddler who doesn't want them can be tough. It usually took both me and my husband, he would hold her down and I would put the drops in.

I always thought styes were lumps on the eye. Does he have a lump? If it's spread, I would think it's more like pink eye than a stye but probably a pediatrician would know better than me. :)

@Andrea: Yah styes can come from playing in dirt... it's caused by a bacteria:

Do you get styes or pinkeye from playing in the dirt? No experience with it - hope he is OK and can still go to daycare!!

After playing in the dirt on Saturday, Charlie started showing some of the classic symptoms of a stye: swollen eye, discharge, etc.

Yesterday though, it spread to his other eye. Maybe it's pink eye? We're going to the doctor today to make sure. If it's pink eye, he'll have to stay home from daycare.

Has your LO gotten stye or pinkeye in the past? What were the symptoms like, and how could you tell which one it was?
