I had SUA with my daughter last year. We had some extra ultrasounds to monitor her growth and a fetal echo to check her heart. She also had a kidney ultrasound done a few days after she was born. Everything was completely normal, though, they were just being thorough.

@HappyBaker: I had a SUA with my daughter, who was born in 2010. We did a fetal Echo, I was monitored via U/S every 2 weeks because a SUA can be a marker for restricted fetal growth.... my daughter was born on time, perfectly healthy, and a whopping 9lbs. She's now 7 and we've never had any health related issues.

My MFM specialist said that this happens more often than we think, and prior to high-def ultrasounds they wouldn't know if a baby had a SUA until they cut the cord at birth. More often than not, it's just the way the umbilical cord forms and it doesn't pose any issues at all.

@HappyBaker: hi!

My daughter also had this. Everything else looked fine on the 18 week ultrasound. My doc (family doc, not OB) sent me to a genetic specialist and for a EKG on the baby when I was about 21 weeks.

The ekg was totally fine. The genetic specialist said that there really wasn't much point to seeing her, the doctor just kind of over reacted.

I had growth ultrasounds every 4 weeks starting at 28 weeks because SUA babies can be at risk for IUGR. She was 6lbs 12 ounces at 39 weeks.

No issues at all - she was super bald and still doesn't have much hair as an almost 18 month old so we joke that the cord causes her lack of hair! Haha. (I fully know this isn't the case!)

The ultrasound tech told me if anything else is wrong it's usually fairly obvious on an ultrasound.
Good luck!

@HappyBaker: My son had this and you can read replies that I got when I asked a similar question here: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/single-umbilical-artery-1.
We'd done the NIPT testing and NT scan, so everyone thought it was an isolated issue (and it was). I had an extra ultrasound at about 23 weeks to look closely at his heart, and the perinatologist deemed it to look good. I didn't have any growth issues during the rest of the pregnancy. The only issue I *might* have had was during delivery, but I can't say for sure. I had a really rough delivery for a number of different reasons, and my OB didn't confirm it, but at the very end of the long process my cord had an issue. My baby is 100% fine and healthy, though, so if all other things sounds like they've been checked out and are fine, I'd imagine all will be well with you, too!

Your story sounds identical to my SIL's they did not do an amnio, they watched the baby carefully and had some moments of concern when it came to fluids and kidney size later in the pregnancy but she was born totally healthy and no issues!

ETA - I am 99% sure we WON'T do the amnio since there are no other markers - but just wanted to know what anyone else did!

We just had our 18 week anatomy scan this morning and they found that I have a single umbilical artery. There were no other abnormalities - heart / kidneys / brain all looked good. We did the NT scan and associated bloodwork at 12 weeks and it came back normal, so really its just the SUA right now. It was with a MFM doctor since I had really high blood pressure in my last pregnancy.

The doctor said we could opt to do an amnio if we wanted (and she actually pushed for an amnio at my 12 week screen and said they are "the norm" now which I totally don't believe!)

Right now the plan is to just go back for another US at 28 weeks and then monitor growth every few weeks after that.

I found some older posts on this in the boards but wondering if anyone else has been through this recently and what you decided to do / how things turned out for you?
