I just flat out hate cilantro and its dish soap of doom flavor. I wish I wasn't geneticlly designed to have it taste like a dirty soap dish that has been in my shower for a month, but it does.

PPs said parsley, that's spot on. Thai basil can work too, in an Asian dish.

Parlsey. DH hates it as well, I end up usually just skipping it. Which stinks cause I love it.

@BelugaBean: I've had huge debates on cilantro hate versus not. I like it. I think it's because we live in a largely Hispanic neighborhood, so the tacqueria tacos are so good with onions and cilantro.

@cascademom: So interesting! He kept asking me last night how I could not hate it as much as he does. If it's a small amount, he can tolerate it but I don't think he's going to let me incorporate it more in hopes that he'll grow to be okay with it.

Thanks! These are good ideas! Last night I made shrimp tacos with a cilantro lime sauce and he ended up taking out the middle of the taco, scraping the sauce off, and just eating it like that. So his aversion to it is pretty strong.

I would think Parsley too. I also saw on a tv segment Paula Deen was making something (NO IDEA what lol) and used basil instead of cilantro because one of her sons hates cilantro. I guess depending on the type of meal a strong flavor like basil may or may not work.

The typical substitution is parsley. Definitely not the same flavour, but preferable for those who have that visceral reaction to cilantro.

My DH hates it too so I'll replace it with a little bit of finely chopped green onion. Or if the recipe has enough other ingredients a lot of times I just skip it!

DH has discovered that he just flat out hates cilantro but it's in a few of the recipes that overall we've come to like recently (besides the cilantro). What's something I can use in place of it?
