We solved our problem! We went back to BBB because I wanted to check out the Peg Perego seat with the b-ready universal adaptor. We ends up not liking them together because it didn't feel secure, but the Mesa actually fit in it nicely. The only bad thing is that it does need the extra strap to secure it, but we weren't too bothered by it.

@MrsCB: I baby wear a lot but for quick trips I love my stroller caddy. I didn't get a travel system. Best $50 I've spent! When she falls asleep during a quick errand she doesn't wake up when I put her car seat back in the car. When I wear her though and she falls asleep, she wakes up when I transfer her back into her seat.

@MrsCB: I told you it was big! I bought a base for the chaperone and it wouldn't fit in my car without DH not being able to fit, and that's just the base..not to mention a car seat being in it! Now I have a stupid base I can't sell or return.

I'd keep your stroller though! Just either carry him, or use a snap n go until he can sit in it on his own!

@MrsCB: I was actually going to say, when you're in the suburbs a lot of places you will go will have a cart or something you can use instead of a snap n go! :)

Also, you will probably sit in back next to the baby for at least a while, on and off, until he's older. Because leaning back to help them replace a pacifier or blanket or clean up spit-up is, well, pretty much impossible. I had to sit smashed between the two carseats when LMW was a baby and that was not pretty.

@looch: I'm not thrilled with the idea of having to treat DH like a chauffeur by sitting in the back all the time. He does like to sit further up than I do so there is some leg room, but I'm not sure it's enough for us to do any longer trips. It just doesn't seem like a good long term solution for us. And we can't do the middle, because I sit way back when I drive and it would interfere with the seat.

@MrsCB: What if you sat in the back with your LO, or is that not an option either, because of legroom in the backseat? Can you do a seat in the middle, with a belt install, or does it have to be LATCH?

I am only 5'4" so I can't speak to height at all.

@looch: It might just be me. Like I said I'm tall, and ALL of my height is in my legs. We could go right to convertible, but then we're in the same position - no travel system. The Mesa actually fit pretty nicely and I like that we still have the option of carrying him in the bucket seat - say we go into a restaurant, we wouldn't need the stroller just the seat, or Target runs we could potentially just put him in the main part of the cart if we're not getting much.

Is that an option, just to go straight to the convertible seat? I hated the bucket, if that means anything to you!

@littlebug: @sunny: Only certain ones click in, like Graco and Chicco, and then those usually work better with the same brand snap n go. I don't think anything will work with the UppaBaby one.

@MrsTiz: Yup we have the Chaperone, and I assumed the b-safe would fit, and that doesn't fit either! I have a not small car (Toyota Venza) and can not believe we're having this much trouble.

@mrs. wagon: @mrskc: Yeah, DH won't consider the snap n go because it won't click in and he doesn't think the straps are safe enough.

@T.H.O.U.: Well, no park for us until spring, and then we'll just put him in the main seat. I think if we sell it I'm going to try to sell it as a package, but if someone wants just the b-ready and we sell the 2nd seat separate, I'll let you know!

@LittleFox: That's kind of what I'm afraid of - we'll go through an enormous hassle to have a travel system, and he'll either hate the car seat or wake up all the time anyways.

@HabesBabe: If we decide to sell just want to get out of it what we paid, which I think was $375. I'd throw in the 2nd seat for free. And then shipping on top of that. It's never been used, or outside of our house. But we recycled the boxes already :(.

@MrsCB: Mmm...our infant seat snaps into the stroller frame - no straps. Maybe cuz it's Graco-to-Graco, though? Don't know about the Mesa. D was born in January and as much as I wanted to babywear, I just couldn't get used to the idea of pulling him out in the cold, getting him into the carrier, and having his little legs exposed to the elements. So I'd probably sell the Britax and get a stroller that your seat will click into, if the frame is not an option.

@mrs. bird: Yeah, we were so upset last night. Pregnancy hormones + disappointment + feeling stupid is not a good combination! So the issue is that the passenger seat was too far forward for me to sit comfortably. I will admit I'm mildly claustrophobic and tall with oddly long legs, so I like my space probably more than the average person.

The curve of the back of the seat of the car was hitting the Chaperone and making it impossible to release it from the base. I had to move it WAY up in order to access the release thingey.

We tried a LOT of car seats last night, and even had to scrap our first choice convertible because we couldn't get a good enough recline on it. We ultimately were able to just fit the UppaBaby Mesa. It was a tiny bit longer than the Chicco NextFit, but the release mechanism and the shape of it worked better with the weird seat backs I have. We tried it with the universal b-ready adapter, and it won't click in.

My only solution was to get the bassinet - so we'd get in the backseat and take D out of the carseat and put him in the bassinet and cover him up, then snap that in the b-ready. Or we sell the b-ready (box is gone :-S) and buy a Vista or City Select, which both work with the Mesa. Oh, and DH hates snap n go's, because of the straps and not clicking in, and he won't consider one of those.

@MrsCB: OMG, this sucks!! i know how much you were looking forward to using your stroller & carseat :( if you don't mind- how was it not fitting? like the angle? the base wasn't all the way on the seat (they do allow for a bit of overhang!)? took up too much space & front seats were too far forward?? sorry, i'm just imagining since our cars are pretty similar that if i ever tried the same seat in my car, i might have a similar problem.

which seat did you settle on instead? can you use the universal adapter to use it with the b-ready?? i think in the winter it's so nice to be able to put them in the seat, throw blankets over them, run outside & then quickly snap the seat into the car- otherwise you're carrying baby out to the car wrapped in blankets, then unwrapping to put them in the seat, standing there with the door open, buckling them in, then putting blankets over them. i'd go frame stroller for a few months during the winter if you have to.

As a winter baby, I don't think you'd use the travel system as much.
How big does baby have to be to fit in the B-ready? Does it have an infant insert for the seat?
I would personally baby wear, especially for Target runs! SO much easier to be hands free! Plus, more room in your basket for goodies ;) you can tuck a nice cozy blanket around baby's arms and legs to protect them from the cold from car to store.

I dunno...I would want one. I wear DD a lot now that she's awake a lot more, but when she was a NB she would wake up if I tried to take her out of the car seat and put her in a carrier, so it was key for me to be able to transfer her without having to take her out of the car seat. Having said that, my kid is kind of a freak in that she doesn't really ever sleep when I wear her....a lot of babies are the complete opposite in that regard!

you can see how it goes with the babywearing--i'm a fan of babywearing but it can be a little tricky during winter depending on how much time you spend outside (which doesn't like you'll be doing much). if that doesn't work, you could buy a used stroller frame (like snap n go) for cheap on craigslist and use that with the carseat until LO is big enough for the b-ready. or the bassinet attachment would work also.

what's nice about the carseat/stroller frame option is if LO falls asleep in the carseat while you're at target or whatever, you can transfer LO to the car without waking LO up.

Also, my baby hated the car seat at first and would not sleep in it. Even when he started falling asleep in the car, he would wake if we moved the seat. For us, transferring him with the car seat didn't end up being any more convenient. Of course, every baby is different, and yours may love the car seat.
