Round rock/Wells Branch area was great and B went to an amazing daycare there. We just prefer just to be a little closer to Austin and some better schools. Round Rock is excellent and so are the schools! If DH's job didn't move us so far south, we would have bought our home up there. I used to work at a daycare in Cedar park and lived in that part of town for a while. There's lots of good neighborhoods in that part of town. It's ranging about the same as what @wheres_c: is quoting for us down south too, $600-$1000 depending on if it's an in home or center! </p> <p>We really love it here though we stay away from downtown during busy times (which is starting to seem like ALL the time these days) :bummed: But it's great to live so close to so many places to visit and eat! Austin is awesome! We are up north in Leander. The schools area good and it's really easy access for the northern tech corridor. I have a 3 year old and daycare has averaged 800-1100 /mo depending on age. He has been at the best of the best daycares, I know some moms that are paying 600/month for in home.</p> <p>I agree with the others, it's important to live the same side of the river as the job. However I'm from Texas and have family here. I'm not sure it would necessarily live up to the hype if I were moving here from somewhere else. </p> <p>Anyway, I totally agree with @abbydabbydoodlebug that you want to minimize the commute as much as possible. Where is the job located? It can take an hour to go just a few miles because the highways get so much traffic during rush hour. There is a commuter train that goes to some of the suburbs, depending on where y'all are going to work. </p> <p>I live in East Austin, not too far from downtown. Daycare costs $1100/month for my infant and $850 for my 3-year-old. Hope that helps! The cost of living is very affordable, from what I understand. I'm not sure how much they've paid for daycare but they were able to buy a house on a single teacher's salary.
