I took Clomid the first time this month, did the ovidrel shot and TI. Not sure if it worked yet I test in two days. I thought I was ovulating on my own but according to doc not very well if at all because my cycles were so long. But this month I got a positive opk before the shot date 😊. She still wanted us to use the trigger shot and do TI. So we will see! Fingers crossed for you! And me!

Just read through this thread and was happy to see some success stories sprinkled through there... Hopeful that the rest of you ladies have had success, too!

I am 31 DH is 37 we have been TTC for 17 months. Everything has come back normal and I have normal cycles 26-28 days. I am on CD 7 and am on day 3 of Clomid. I have also been prescribed Progesterone so I am hopeful this combination works for us. Very nervous!

@anienyc: no updates, no. After this last loss, my second loss in a row, the dr wanted to run a few tests before starting me on Clomid again. I'll start again in January. Thanks for the well wishes, I'm hoping we will finally be successful soon!

Good luck to you as well!

@Crystal: I just read this whole thread because I'm talking to my OB in a few weeks about clomid after hitting my year mark of TTC and all tests coming back as normal. I saw clomid worked for you but you miscarried. I'm so sorry to hear. Do you have any update? Are you still on clomid and any luck? Sincerely hope it works for you soon

@mrsleanos2014: My experience was fine. I started on the lowest dose (50?) and took it for one cycle. I was maybe a touch more irritable than normal but nothing extreme. I got pregnant that first cycle and just gave birth to my beautiful daughter on 5/31/15 :) Clomid did make me ovulate a little sooner than expected (1-2 days) so we almost missed the window, but fortunately happened to do the deed right on ovulation day, so it worked out.

@mrsleanos2014: a trigger is an injection you do once your follicles (monitored by ultrasound) reach maturity. It releases all of them 36 hours after the injection for better timing. Usually only RE's would do that though. I think regular old clomid sounds good for you.

@travellingbee: He prescribed 50mg of Clomid. What's a trigger? I don't think he added that. He does want me to come in on CD 21-23 to check my progesterone levels this cycle.

@mrsleanos2014: I had two miscarriages before the clomid progesterone combo. Are you going to be monitored? If you are just doing climid with no trigger, usually only one egg is still released. If you do a trigger, then you are probably being monitored and you'd know how many eggs would release. I think you should definitely go for it. Your chance of multiples is still very low.

@travellingbee: Thanks for the words of encouragement. I am age 31. I had an early miscarriage (4-5 weeks preg), back in February. I often wonder if it's because I had weak ovulation and low progesterone. Hence my recent low number of 11.83. I am doing everything in my power to not go through that again.

@mrsleanos2014: I did two cycles of clomid even though I ovulated regularly. My ovulation was somewhat weak and I had suspected poor egg quality because of my age (37). The second one worked. I had 3 food size follicles but am only pregnant with one baby! Good luck!

@badwolf: Last week, my doctor said I had weak ovulation (level 11.83 at CD 21). He prescribed Clomid. What was your experience like? I am afraid of multiples. I am on CD 2 of new cycle and have only a couple of days to make a decision if I want to try Clomid (or not) this cycle. Thanks!

Subscribing because I believe this will be our next step and I have so many concerns and questions.. I will ask about Femara and Letrozole, because I'm concerned about Clomid's side effects (TCOYF scared me when it talked about lessening your EWCM etc)...

I would like to know exactly what Clomid will do for me, because I feel like my main issue is progesterone (I O every cycle but my LP is only 9-11 days). I am also on my 3rd cycle of acupuncture which is supposed to support follicle development/egg quality. It's just the darn LP that won't lengthen!

I'll let this thread know if my RE has any more details to share about how different rx's are effective...

I was ovulating on my own and had success with Clomid. We tried for about 20 cycles, DH's SA was normal, my HSG was clear. Got pregnant on my second round of clomid--about 3 cycles after my HSG. The only problem I could see was a very short luteal phase. My doctor put me on Clomid to make everything "stronger". My LP was ranging 8-10ish days (21-23 day cycles). My first round of Clomid my LP was 12 days and a 25 day cycle. So it did help lengthen my cycle a bit. And FWIW, my medication was $9 per cycle. :goodluck: :goodluck: :goodluck:

@Crystal: Femara is officially approved for breast cancer, so it might be covered. Even if it's not, it's cheap. I used goodrx.com and it cost about $12.

@LindsayInNY: We did get the costs from the REs office, and found that by using insurance we would save less than $50 per cycle than if we used insurance vs. not. I hate the stupid insurance games. :bummed:

@Crystal: I think the rates billed are higher because they know that the insurance company has a negotiated rate that is lower. I would think 50% is lower regardless. The RE's office should be able to tell you what things will cost.

If you ask about Femara, see if they can do Letrozole instead. It's the generic version of Femara and is actually used to treat breast cancer (or something like that), so it's typically covered. Each of my prescriptions was only $5. Good luck! :goodluck:

Oh and the benefit to Femara/Letrozole over Clomid is that it isn't supposed to thin your lining like Clomid and there are less side effects. I basically had no symptoms on Letrozole, but have heard of people on Clomid having horrible mood swings..

This worked for my co-worker. She had weak ovulation, and when a cycle of IUI cost $750-$1200, it was worth it to her to try it with TI only. She got pregnant the first cycle doing that, and ended up not needing IUI. I say go for it for at least one cycle. Fingers crossed so hard for you!

@owlteach: right now we are unexplained, but all of DHs numbers look great. Your story gives me hope this might work for us!

Did they ever clarify what "weak" ovulation means? Mine hasn't- I need to ask for more details at our next spot.

I feel like the re is pushing us toward ivf because of the higher success rate, but we have no coverage for that.

ETA: both the RE and OB said there was no point in IUI's because we knew that the problem wasn't DH. It sounds like dr's are definitely split on that though.

@LindsayInNY: I am covered at 50%, but the rates insurance is billed is so much higher than a cash patient, it practically works out to the same cost. I am really worried about wasting the amount of times I can use clomid on attempts that are set up to fail. :bummed:

@MrsADS: thank you for sharing! Our issues are unexplained currently, so I am hoping we will be lucky and have it work first time!

@AmeliaBedilia: I'm definitely going to ask about femara. I don't think that is covered under my insurance, though.

@mrs.shinerbock: I really hope we get lucky with clomid and TI. Otherwise we'll move to an iui.

@travellingbee: are you ovulating on your own? FX for us both!

@NorthStar: I hope we both get our BFPs soon. ❤️
