I totally understand your heartache, stress, and anxiety. I also have no issues but my husband has low sperm count and low morphology/motility. We tried 2 cycles of natural IVF (no stims; just used my naturally released egg) and I got pregnant on the 2nd cycle but miscarried. I then tried stimulated IVF and it resulted in my amazing now 18 month old daughter. We are currently trying for #2 and had one failed FET in April but plan to transfer one frozen blast next week! Honestly all this is to say I think it's a crazy crapshoot that no one has any control over. When implantation/pregnancy does not last it's because the embryo is not strong enough so I've taken to believing in fate. Good luck and don't give up hope...trust me my daughter was worth every tear and bit of heartache we experienced.

Thank you all so much for responding! It is so refreshing to hear success stories. I am so terrified our FET will fail honestly :(

My husband and myself are going to discuss with the RE about 1 or 2 embryo's, but I think we want to try 1 again xo having a 3.5 already at home; I don't think I want to risk twins. Just a personal choice. If 1 splits, well that's just the way of it haha and we will be fine. :)

Gosh I am so nervous this will fail... I don't know what else to do to keep my mind off of it? I was so stressed with my fresh cycle, ugh.

@MegLynch: I had success with a FET following a failed fresh cycle. For all of the reasons the girls above stated, my doctor told me FET was a better course of action than a fresh cycle. I transferred by two remaining embryos for the FET and ended up with one possible vanishing twin and one that I'm still carrying now at 27 weeks. We transferred two because I was overly anxious to get pregnant, didn't want to have to pay twice for two different FETs, and my doctor suggested it! :silly: We would have been okay with twins, but I'm so happy to even just have this one baby right now. Best of luck to you! I'm forever a FET girl should I need to go back to the IVF route again.

I only have experience from first FET but my RE told me the research shows FETs are a bit more successful. Along with allowing your body to rest and not have to recover come the stims from a fresh cycle, the embryos are also frozen and thawed... so one might say they are heartier to withstand the freezing and thawing process.

Though, I've seen success with fresh cycles and failures with FET so unfortunately sometimes things don't work out. :crying: Sorry, IF sucks. I do wish you all the luck. I know how nerve wracking it was to put all your money into an IVF cycle that might not work and the thought of doing another one if it failed was pretty much out of the question.

We transferred two and we ended up with twins. We always wanted twins and we were 'mostly' financially stable to afford them. We don't have to pay for daycare but the cost of twins in daycare is scary. We were aware of the splitting risk and held our breath to find out if there was 1,2, 3 or 4 in there. (We would be thankful for anything. We made it through 3 years of IF. I think we can handle however many took.) For us, there was only two and both made it through. Though, I did have some multiple related pregnancy complications. I'm thankful that my twins are healthy.

Definitely feel hopeful that an FET will work for you! Both my LO#1 (almost 3) and my current pregnancy are from FETs just after failed fresh cycles. I am a big believer in FETs! Your body is under so much less stress than during a fresh cycle and is set up for ideal conditions with the hormone replacements.

As for 1 vs 2, it is a tough decision. With two frozen, I might consider doing 2 separate FETs rather than putting 2 back this first FET. Then you have 2 chances at it and don't have as much worry about twins. Honestly, we put in two this recent cycle and ended up initially pregnant with twins. One did not continue to develop and I am frankly relieved even though it is incredibly sad to lose one. Wishing you so much luck!!

So I don't have any experience with a fresh transfer that failed but I have had a failed frozen embryo transfer and then a successful frozen embryo transfer. Like you I have no fertility issues (and neither does my DH) - we did IVF for genetic testing issues/etc.

In any event, I completely understand how completely devastating it is to have a failed transfer. We only had 2 embryos suitable for transfer and when my first transfer failed it was heartbreaking and almost paralyzing bc suddenly we were left with our one and only and the best one had already been transferred.

I will say I do know many others who had a failed fresh transfer and then went on to have a successful FET

Not sure if your doc when into it but basically my labs following my transfer showed there was no implantation at all. He was shocked and puzzled bc I have zero fertility issues. His best guess was that my body was not dealing well with even the minimal amount of IVF meds that they do to best prepare our bodies for the transfer. So he advised me to do an unmedicated cycle for my next FET. Bc I have zero fertility issues he thought it would be highly likely that the transfer would be successful without the meds. So that's what we did and it was successful.

Not sure if that's the best course of action for you, but just know that just bc this cycle failed doesn't mean the next cycle will also fail. Best of luck!

@Mamaof2 wow that is amazing! I'm so happy things worked out for you guys :) my husband saw 2 urologist that specialize in MFI and neither of them suspected a blockage. I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean one isn't there! Haha. But we've kinda just accepted IVF is what we have to do.. I don't think my husband will want to go under the knife again, especially when there isn't 100% if there even was a blockage that the surgery would help.

@Northstar so much baby dust for your FET! I have heard also that women have way better luck with FET's so I'm hoping with everything we get lucky.. I don't know if mentally I can handle any more heartache, these hormones have made me so depressed almost, it's awful :(

I already feel like I'll be way LESS stressed with a FET! That's also a really good point you mentioned about only placing back 1.. We definitely considered that even 1 could split. Or 2 could turn into 3! Oh my. We do have a 3.5 year old (my son with my ex) and since he doesn't see or know his father, my ex's decision.. He is with us full time. So the goal for us now is totally 1 healthy nugget <3 so with that being said, we will probably most likely being transferring 1, and I'm sure my RE will be really happy with that decision.. She cringed almost when I brought up placing 2 back for our fresh transfer lol.

I will definitely check out that board! Thank you so much! And I wish you the best of luck with your FET xoxo

I have had 2 failed fresh cycles and will be doing our first FET on Tuesday! I am trying to remain as hopeful as I can, but completely understand how you feel. It's so scary!

But, I have heard that FETs can be VERY successful as your body doesn't have a ton of drugs running through it from the stims. I have noticed a huge difference in my stress level during this FET cycle. I've only had to go in for ultrasounds twice (I live 2 hours away from my RE, so this is a huge deal) and then one more time for the transfer.

As far as transferring one or two, with you being so young, I would say to just transfer one. The main reason that I say that is that a friend of mine transferred one and it split, so she still ended up with twins! For me, I would be scared that one of the two transferred would split and you would end up with more than 2! But, I'm just extra cautious as we have one child already.

Good luck in your decision and join us on this board as you begin your FET! We have lots of useful and helpful information

@MegLynch: just wanted to say that if they found sperm then your DH probably has an obstruction. DH had surgery for his and while we went ahead and did IVF for #1 we got preg on our own for #2 so the surgery was successful!

@purplepumps thank you for answering! We are not doing PGS, our insurance doesn't cover it.. And we don't have the funds for it, so we decided to take our chances to see what happens. Also our RE said she didn't think it was necessary so we kinda just let that idea go for now I guess :/

I definitely am prepared for twins.. But would love 1 haha. I think we might do 1 again and see what happens.. Also my RE was completely against 2 the last time I spoke with her, before our fresh cycle.. So I'm assuming she's still not going to be ok with 2 ;)

Did you do pgs? If not, no matter how great it looks, there is still a chance that it's genetically abnormal and would not implant or grow. I think stats for your age expect 50-75% blast normal. Some studies also point toward fets being more successful too since the body it not all hyped up from the stim drugs. Only ask for two if you are able and willing to accept the risk of twins. For me, if i were 28, I'd go with one, but that is a very personal decision. Good luck!

Hello all! This is my first post xo I just came across this site, and I just love it.

A little back story: I'm 28, hubby is 34. I have a son from a previous relationship, and no "issues" regarding fertility.. We found out after TTC for almost 3 years that my hubby has azoospermia (0 sperm count) after 1 year of tests for him and bloodwork, everything came back perfect literally we have no clue why he has no sperm coming out?! He did micro TESE and we were so lucky, to retrieve 6 vials of sperm. They froze it. I started stims, they retrieved 15 eggs all mature, out of the 15.. 7 fertilized with ICSI, and 4 made it to day 5 blast. We placed back 1, and froze 3.

We placed a little 5AA :( and our cycle failed... I am completely devastated. Heartbroken. We were given such great chances and :/ yeah didn't work. We are moving on to FET I'm hoping immediately!

Couple of questions: do you think I should ask to place 2 back?
And who has success with FET after a failed fresh?

Thank you!! :)
