@FliegepilzHut: then I would try to have that be the goal!

Even with the early wake ups, thankfully DS is pretty cheerful. He is on a floor bed so he will go over to the door and call for me, so now I am leaving a few toys near the door to distract him. I have been doing a lot of solo mornings so I don't go get him until after I shower, usually a little after 6. That has not made him sleep any later but we can work with it for now.

@MamaCate: If we can more or less painlessly go with extra soothing (nursing) as necessary at bedtime and crashing out around 8:30, I think we will do that, since the later bedtime will suit us when we go on vacation the week after next. Still not sure why the change now...maybe daylight savings is hitting us late? And/or it's a developmental/toddler thing? I'm sorry you, too, are living in early wake-ups ville... Last night, my kid was exceptionally light for HOURS in the early morning (co-sleeping)...and I'm beat.

@FliegepilzHut: j think this depends so much on your kid and what they are use stop my DS is 22 months. My goal is to get him to sleep by 7:30 every night so anything after 8 feels super late to me...but he is regularly waking up before 5:30! So I don't feel like he would function with a later bed time!

Plus I need the kids to go to sleep early because after bedtime is when I do all.the.things.

So I agree with consistency and what works for you. I am guessing this is a phase that you could ride out and get back to your previous bedtime, or you could use it as an opportunity to shift things if you think it would better for you.
Good luck! Sleep issues are no joke!

@autumnlove: Kiddo was up at 5 a few days ago... :crying:

@Mrs. Goose: Thank you! I suspect that moving bedtime back a bit may be the right call for now...unless of course, he didn't nap well and seems sleep-deprived!

I would just keep doing what you're doing for a week or two and see if it keeps up. Mine was 18 months and I had a week or two of crazy night time where there was screaming or crying when I tried to put her to bed and I had to stay in the room or pat her back and she has been sleeping independently and basically through the night since 6 months. I did read, at the time, that it's important to maintain consistency during those times when other stuff may be going on that's impacting their sleep (like teething, developmental leaps, etc).

If it continues I would see about shortening nap time.

ETA: mine is an early riser and light sleeper once it gets close to the morning and used to go to bed at 7:30. Then it got bumped up to 8/8:30. Any later than that and she wakes too early and doesn't get enough sleep at night time.

No advice but my 21 month old went through a phase of waking at 5:30 instead of 7. It was a rough few weeks but she is back to her regular time!

Hoping someone has some insight...

My DS has never been what you might call a "good sleeper"...however for the last few months, he has had a very consistent bedtime ~7:30, after about 5 hours awake, a predictable nighttime routine and nursing to relax but not usually to fall sleep.

For the last couple of weeks, he has been pushing back his bedtime to closer to 8:15 and in the interest of not having a full hour of wind-down time every evening (where previously he was going to sleep after 10-15minutes), I have moved back dinner and bath a bit to facilitate this. Now, 2 of the last 3 nights he has been staying up until 8:45 or a little later (6-ish hours awake) and appearing WIRED after his typical bath, jammies, books, and lullaby/nursing/cuddling routine. The first of these was after a particularly long nap closer to 2.5 hours at "school"... And last night it occurred after a very busy day with a party (and a big cookie!) in the afternoon.

Overall, he is in the middle of a developmental leap with speech...more drooly, so maybe working on 2-year molars...and otherwise healthy, though with a little snot, which hasn't changed in the last few weeks.

Is this a thing? Should I be moving his bedtime back? Up? He tends to be an early riser AND a fairly light sleeper, so I'm hesitant to do much different if this is just a(nother) sleep regression. :meh:
