@MungBean: :( Oh man! I hope we have to deal with this for less than 6 weeks. It's SO much work trying to time all the meds, and wash and sanitize everything compulsively!

@edelweiss: Thanks! I do hope she outgrows it.

She seems to be feeling a bit better today - so sudden loud cries out in pain. I DID feel her fart though a few times in her sleep at night. I think maybe the extra tummy massage and being more aggressive with the Zantac helped a little.

around the 4-7 week period, our LO was crying/fussing a lot, which we think was due to gas pain and some reflux. it was heartbreaking. we did a lot of the things you are talking about--positioning him more upright during feeding, burping frequently, having him sleep on an incline, gripe water, gas drops, probiotics, tummy massage, bicycle legs, etc. our pediatrician didn't prescribe zantac because he wasn't convinced it was reflux, because it sounded more like gas.

honestly, i think time was the most important thing--his system just needed to develop more. their systems are so immature, that gas pain and reflux seem to be really common. i hope the zantac helps, and that she feels better soon!

LO does this and I'm pretty sure it's trapped gas. Changing his position or rubbin his tummy seems to help us. I lay him face down on my legs and rub his back.

Aw, I know what you mean :( I would try to give her the Zantac regularly and see if that helps. Your lo sounds just like mine when she was newborn with both reflux and thrush. :( we had thrush for six straight weeks. Hang in there and I hope it gets better soon!

LO sometimes gets the saddest look and wails. Since I know nothing is wrong, I just try to cuddle her and bounce her on my lap. Like us, sometimes you just gotta let it out.

@Mrs Green Grass: Yes, we have been trying to give her the Zantac mixed with some expressed milk. Even that she can taste it and spits it out or won't finish the small amount in the bottle. We've been playing around with how much milk to Zantac ratio.

@shopaholic: do you ever give a bottle? Even if you had 20 mls to mix with the Zantac it would help.

@Smurfette: @coacheswife123: K does let out cries in her sleep too but I don't worry too much about those. This new development will be just randomly while she is awake and just holding her or baby wearing or even when she's sitting in her carseat.

@Mrs Green Grass: We do think she has reflux. And we're battling thrush. But these crazy loud sudden cries are new. I've been trying to keep her head up while BFing, afterwards, and letting her sleep on an incline. I admit the Zantac is hard to give her, she hates it. Will try harder today and see if that helps.

Sometimes that can be associated with reflux. Ate there any other signs?

J does the same and almost always when he is asleep! I always hold him a little tighter or just go to him and pat his little back and he alway stops almost immediately. It's almost like he is having a nightmare ! It's soooo pitiful and sad !

I know this is such a "newbie" mom question, but how do you figure out what's wrong with baby when he/she cries? Specifically, last night and today, K will be fine and dandy and all of the sudden will have the saddest face and cry out so loud like she is in terrible pain! So heartbreaking! It's not hunger or diaper. I keep trying to burp her because I think it must be gas pains, but it's not like she gets a big burp and then relief. I think she must have bad gas that needs to come out in a fart maybe? I tried the bicycle, massaging, and gripe water. But that's just my guess. Ive checked clothing tags, diaper rash, temps...What else could it be?

It's not continuous, like I said, these screams and cries out are so loud and she'll look at me so sad. It makes me want to cry because I don't know what to do. Bouncing, holding her, nothing really helps for a couple minutes each time!
