I've had a few time here and there where I had a really sudden supply drop too. I freak out a bit but so far I've had it go back up later on. Glad you got good output with your later pump!

Thanks for your advice, ladies! I got home and pumped 7oz in one session, so it seems like it was a weird one off. I'm going to switch out the membranes because it does seem like the pump isn't as efficient as usual. Crisis averted.

@cmomma17: Thanks! I discovered yesterday's pumping output still in the cooler in my bag by the door this morning, so its not been a great pumping day today. :-/

@Elderberrygin: oh yeah, that could definitely have an impact! you need to zen out while pumping! I am amazed at how much stress can impact milk supply. Think positive thoughts, drink lot's of water, get some good sleep tonight and hopefully this is just a one time thing!! (((HUG)))

@cmomma17: I'm in the middle of job applications, so that could be having an effect. I probably shouldn't have tried to work on my writing sample while pumping.

I hope that it's just a one time thing. This happened to me once and it was due to stress. I had to work on relaxing and my supply did come back up the next day. Is anything stressful going on in your life right now?

@Foodnerd81: I can usually hand express a fair amount, but I've never tried to do a whole session by hand. I always get an extra two ounces at the end of a pump session.

@Ms.SK: I had a spare membrane in my pump bag and tried it out and it didn't have any effect. I'll switch out both membranes when I get home anyway and see if it helps. I'm definitely overdue for servicing.

Maybe your baby just nursed really effectively and emptied out your breast? I know they're a lot more effective than pumps! This happened to me this morning-I was so upset that I was only able to pump 1.5 oz before work rather than my usual 4 or 5... But after work, I managed to get 6.5 oz during naptime. I hope for both our sakes this morning was a one off!

I was going to suggest the membranes too. Can you usually hand express more than that? I never hand express-- like, I get drops when I try, even when I get a normal pump session, so it wouldn't be indicative of anything for me.

It could be that your membranes need to be replaced. When was the last time you did maintence on your pump?

This is weird. I pumped as usual at breakfast and got a decent amount, then replaced my usual 9am pump session with a nursing session because I took LO to the pediatrician and just did my noon pump session and got...zero ounces. Pump's working fine, in the wrong part of my cycle for my supply to dip, been eating steel cut oats and drinking Mother's Milk tea. I have no idea what on earth is going on. I managed to hand express half an ounce on one side and zero on the other.

This is not the day for this to happen. I can't do an afternoon pump session because I have an offsite meeting that I'm carpooling to.

Any thoughts? Advice? Did my boobs hear me discussing supplementing with the pediatrician and give up?
