@caffeinated: I think most of it she learned on her own - she got hungry earlier and I was less excited about going over to feed her. She never cried for long but I don't think it took much for her to realize she needed to focus on food.

I also sometimes rubbed her feet and made faces at her while she nursed. She could get her stimulation in while still nursing, and occasionally she'd stop to give me a big smile

@runsyellowlites: Nighttime feeding is longer but she won't calm down (she's panting away waiting) until i give her the other boob...she'll only suckle for about 5 minutes so.

DD takes about that long to eat now & I can't definitely feel she's emoting the breast. She could still care less about what's going on (tv, convos, etc) lol.

I would assume that the night time feeding is longer for comfort/soothing purposes as opposed to getting more.

@Maysprout: Yes, she was very distracted! It even got to the point where i would look away and hope that the lack of eye contact would help her. How did you get her to eat more, or is it something i have to wait out?

My LO did that I think around 4 months, she became super distractable. I mean they do become quicker eaters as time goes on but she was just wanting to socialize and was afraid she'd miss something while she was eating. I'd prod her to keep eating but sometimes she wouldn't, eventually she learned that she needed to make the most of mommy food time, but the worlds just so exciting at first.

DD is three months and she used to take anywhere between 10 and 20 minutes on each boob. Starting from about 12 weeks, she'll only feed for 5 minutes on each boob! After 5 minutes, she'll pull herself off, look at me, start babbling and then go back to the boob only when i prod her back on. After 5 minutes of this tug of booby war, i decide to give her my other boob and she'll do the same. 5 minutes (sometimes less) and then she'll start looking away.

It's frustrating because it doesn't seem like she is getting enough since the feeds are now less than every 3 hours. She stays on the breast much longer during the night feeds so i feel like the efficient eater theory isn't it.

Has anyone experienced this before? What do i do to get her to eat more?
