Here's the text from the book

Set your clock an hour earlier than your baby usually wakes up and go into his room. Jostle him gently, rub his belly a bit, and stick a pacifier in his mouth...all of which will stir him to semi consiousness. Then leave. He'll fall back to sleep....by waking him up an hour earlier, you'll disrupt his pattern.

I hear you though, I was terrified to do it because I was worried it would mean we'd be having playtime at 4 am!

@looch: yeah I dont know if Id do that. When we wake her up, she is UP up. Hopefully I dont have to revert to that and this corrects on its own lol

I read the Baby Whisper's method...let me confirm from my book...but go in and change the diaper. Just enough to kind of wake her up but not full on "let's turn on the lights and play."

iiiiinteresting. So Id go wake her up at like 4:45 and then what? Cuddle her till she falls back asleep?

@Andrea: thanks. Im hoping thats what it is. 5am is killer. I guess I could suck it up and go for a jog, but I dont want to be jogging before dawn

The theory is that there is a shift in sleep at around an hour before the wakeup occurs...what you're supposed to do is go in just before that shift happens and wake the child up before they do it naturally. The idea is that it "resets" their internal clock and they stop the wake ups.

Welcome to my world, same issue at around the same age too!

I was too chicken to do the whole wake to sleep thing, in hindsight, I wish I tried it.

@Andrea: this all started when she was under the weather last week. I just thought it would end when she felt better like it always has

You could try the 6 pm bedtime or just wait it out. Whenever DD is under the weather, she might wake up early for a week and then go back to her normal wake up time when she feels better. I find that CIO at that time of day doesn't work for her. When she's up for the day, that is it and I just have to go in and get her.

Holy crap guys, I am TIRED. So Liv has been a very consistent sleeper for months and months now (she is 13 months old today.) Always went down between 6:30 and 7, and woke up at about 6am. Fr the last like 5 days, shes suddenly started waking up at 5 on the dot. I could deal with 6am, but 5 is just way too early. I was very against this, but for the last 3 days Ive let her CIO until about 6 hoping that she would get the hint. Ive put toys at her access, she has a crib aquarium (which she turns on and keeps on,) but she never seems to get tired. She stands the entire hour and walks back and forth and tries to climb out of the crib. Any suggestions to get her back on her normal schedule? I know in the past Ive suggested earlier bedtimes to other people. but at this point should I really try to get her down at 6? That seems insane.
