@mrs. bird: oh gosh, that's too bad that they're pricey :( i take my dog to a place in Westborough that is pretty cheap, at least compared to where I used to take him. It's on Summer St (I forget the name)

@Shutterbug: that's where the dog was  they are pretty $$. They're wonderful though! That's where I took my cat in the middle of the night when his flea and tick repellent gave him seizures (the hartz kind is awful, I didn't know  )

@mrs. bird: Tufts animal hospital! They're a vet school in Grafton http://vet.tufts.edu/ I'm not sure if they do any pro bono work, but I know that vet schools would be a good place to look (if not for services, at least for advice/resources)

I have seen some great tutorials online for making homemade doggy wheelchairs with parts you can get cheaply from any hardware store. If either of them are good with tools at all, that might work for them!

Here is one example, but there are more if you Google it.

Goodness that's so terrible! The thing that immediately comes to mind would be Texas A&M University. I've always heard that if you're animal is sick, they have top of the line equipment and experience and is usually available at a discounted cost than most vets. I'll see if I can look anything up.

a friend has a dog that was run over by a pickup truck 2 weeks ago and since her spine wasn't broken (her pelvis was and it came apart from her spine) they were able to do surgery to save her and they said there's a chance she might walk again, but needs PT and a doggie wheelchair and she's been in the animal hospital for the past two weeks, all very $$$.

does anyone have suggestions for places to look for free or low cost used wheel chairs or grants to help cover the costs of her care or volunteer programs to work with handicapped dogs? i was overwhelmed when i googled it, so suggestions would be very helpful! i'd love to have something helpful to pass along.
