It sounds like you're doing everything right!!

This would be a last resort for me (but I definitely tried it) ... Have you heard of Domperidone? One side effect is lactation, and increased milk supply. Most doctors in the U.S. won't prescribe it for lactation purposes, as that's not the main purpose of the drug. I got mine from inhousepharmacy.vu ... Something like 50 mg a day would boost your supply. I was taking 120 mg, but had no increase ... I have a genetic issue that causes low supply. A lot of the mamas who see my lactation consultant use it. I would definitely talk with a doctor before considering it, but it is a very viable option. I didn't have any side effects from the drug.

Other than that, lots of water, lacto friendly foods, teas, herbs, and pump pump pump.

I'm in the same boat with supply right now and LO is 7 months old. I have to be really diligent about pumping at work and not skipping any pumping sessions during the day -- I calendar it and set a reminder so I won't get distracted. I also pump at night after LO goes to bed. I'm trying to stay hydrated and eat well (oatmeal for breakfast, etc). Good luck mama! It's hard :bummed:

Like @Adira: my supply took a major hit around 9 months. Power pumping was the only thing that ever worked for me to increase my supply. All of the supplements gave LO and I digestive upset. I would power pump after he went to bed, and at my lunch time pumping session for about a week. You may also need to add more sessions, with your LO dropping sessions you may have gotten too far away from your "magic number." http://dhss.delaware.gov/dhss/dph/chs/files/resmohrbachermagicnumber2011.pdf

However, my LO also slowed down in weight gain between his 6 and 9 month appointments. I think it's really typical as they become more mobile. If he seems satisfied after nursing sessions, I'm not really sure that I would put in a whole lot of effort to try to significantly increase supply.

I think you're doing the right things too and PP had alot of good suggestions. Maybe you can also try Fenugreek? I've been struggling with this situation too. My daughter is 9.5 months and my supply has dropped recently. She nurses for shorter sessions too. I pump at work and now can barely get enough for her bottles at daycare.

My supply went down at this time but my guy dropped a feeding as well so I was able to catch back with him so to speak. Maybe that will happen for you? For reference, he dropped from 6 to 5 feedings.

@edelweiss: Oh yes - good call. Longer sessions helped me too.

Also adding a power pumping session in every day. Everyday before bed, I'd power pump for an hour. That helped.

more frequent and longer pumping sessions helped me (i think). with the pumping sessions, after the 1st letdown, i would wait for the 2nd--this could take 10-15 minutes of pumping without anything coming out, so it is time-consuming, but i was pretty obsessed at the time.

It sounds like you're taking the right steps. Around 9 months is also when my supply started to plummet and it was really hard to keep it up. I did what you did - pumped after nursing sessions, and I added pumping sessions at work to try to compensate.

When do you nurse vs. feed solids?

Hello ladies-- hoping that you have some suggestions for me!

LO #2 is 9 months old and eats like a champ-- 1-2 pouches of purees 3x/day, a handful of veggies/fruit/pasta during his 3 meals, and he's never met a Cheerio he didn't like.

Unfortunately, this means he's been nursing less and less, for shorter sessions each time. We probably nurse 4-5x a day, and I offer both sides, but I don't hear him swallowing with every suck after I have my letdown (usually every 2-3 sucks, he'll swallow), so I know that my supply is going down.

I started taking liquid More Milk Plus (ugggghhhh), and I've taken the pump out from storage to try and get things going (plan on pumping 10 mins after each nursing session). To add to it, when he is around 11 1/2 months, the hubs and I will be going to Maui for a week without the kids-- I *think* I have enough frozen milk to get him through that week, but if I have a huge increase is supply, it'll be AWESOME now, but kinda crappy in 2 months when I have to stuff my pump into my carry on.

Any suggestions? I read that the majority of his caloric intake should be BM or formula, with solids complementing at this age (so, 75/25? I think we are more like 25/75, tbh). He almost plateaued weight-wise from his 6 month appt and his 9 month (only gained about 4 ounces-- but he's still 90th%ile), so his ped wasn't worried yet.

I guess I don't know what I should do!
