@Dandelion: you should check into LEGO camps. They sound so cool! Promoting STEM skills and all that stuff :silly: My LO is too young of course but I'd love to send him in a few years!

DD's preschool offers 3 weeks of summer camp immediately following the end of the school year (since she's just 3, the camp is 3 days a week 9-12:30) and then we have signed her up for 2 more weeks of camp a little later in the summer at another area preschool (she will go 5 days a week at the other camp). None of the camps are cheap, but since I'm taking 2 classes and I'm pregnant, it will really be good for all of us for her to be busy.

She is 4 and doing camp at the Y. The cost is in the thousands, but comparable to her regular school anyway.

@locavore_mama: I was thinking more about older (school aged) kids. Too old for daycare.

My stepkids are 12 and 8. SS will do a week of soccer camp, and SD will do a week art camp at a pottery studio. If we can swing it, there is a cooking camp they could do together (just a Tues, Wed, Thurs, 10-1230) that sounds super fun! We need to keep them busy while they are here visiting us, since DH and I can't take two months off of work and MIL needs a break occasionally!

We enrolled Charlie in a camp for 5 weeks. It is with the after school program that he is already enrolled in, but this is full day (8-4). He is 4 1/2 and they accept kids from 3 1/2. They do one day at the pool, one day at the beach, one day playing sports at the park, and various other activities like museums.

He's doing it with his best friend so he would have a blast!

My DD's school has a summer camp, so she will be doing that this summer. They take the kids to gymnastics , field trips, etc so she will be busy. I did research other camps but it was much easier to keep her in one place than to piece together a bunch of camps.

J isn't old enough, but as long as he wants to do it I would love to give him the opportunity. I looked into the YMCA camps but yikes, they're a couple thousand dollars for just a week or two. There is another local camp my brother and his friends went to and loved that is cheaper.

Luckily our DCP has summer camp and its only an extra $500 total for both kids in addition to regular tuition

I looked at day camps for once DS is in school and they are $400 a week!!!!!

ETA: and that is for 9am-3pm so then I would have to pay $$ for before and after care - oy!

No idea what I will do since we both WOTH!!
