@Mrs. Turtle: dang! What about a local group that’s not Babywearing International? I’m in a super tiny town and we have one 45 min away!

I also have a simple linen one from SBP! You tube is great for tutorials on using them :) Personally once mine were 4 weeks I found it easier to wear with their legs out but I think it’s all personal preference! GL!

@Mrs. Turtle: loved my RS for the newborn days! There is a slight learning curve, but you’ll catch on quickly! Check out if there are any Babywearing International groups near you...they will have a lending library so you can try out a ring sling (and they will teach you how to use it! )

@Mrs. Turtle: I just have a plain linen one from Sleeping Baby Productions. It’s nothing too fancy! It did require a breaking in period but it wasn’t bad at all. If you’re on Facebook you could check out the marketplace.

@newlypregnantlady: Ok I like the ring sling idea. I've never used one, but have thought about picking one up to try. Any suggestions on specific ones you like?
@MamaBear87: @Foodnerd81: I will start bringing a muslin blanket along on our walks and playground trips.
@MACSUNSHINE: Yeah. I am pretty careful about sun although I've been less so lately with O, as she just doesn't burn as quickly. This new one is very fair with bright red hair, so I'm super paranoid now!

I have been wondering this as I wait on baby to arrive. I hope to try a ring sling this time around and will likely use the one piece swimsuits with spf for days we are really going to be out in the sun. The big hats etc should help too. I am a crazy nut about the sun, with DS he was about 6 months during the peak of summer and I still had him in the romper swimsuits when we were not at the beach 😉.

Like others said I used to tuck a Muslin swaddle blanket over the carrier to cover arms and legs. I put a sun hat on to protect her head. I did usually do the moby for my summer baby because she preferred it, even though we both did get really hot. And light pants or Baby Legs sometimes.

My little was an October baby but we lived in southern California so got lots of sun.
I usually used a light muslin blanket tucked around exposed parts and also had a big sun hat that I wore that provided extra shade for both of us

We used to do a ring sling with legs in (I could never get the hang of legs out with a newborn, it felt like I was bending her legs in a weird position with my belly). Then I’d put a big floppy hat on her, or drape the tail over her/my shoulder if she fell asleep. I actually used the ring sling because I felt it offered easier sun protection.

For the ergo I’ve seen women who tuck a lightweight swaddle (like a muslin or gauzy one) around the straps and then let it sort of hang over the baby. You could also try and find some light, loose linen pants? Idk if those exist for newborns but I know loose is cooler than tight leggings.

For those of you who wore your newborn a lot out and about in the summer, how do you protect them from the sun without overheating them? We are doing a lot outside right now with O to keep us all sane, and baby (4 weeks) is coming along. I've been using the ergo when it's warm because it seems cooler than a wrap, but then her legs and arms are exposed even with the sun shade over her head. Is there an easy way to protect her from the sun without baking her (and me?)
