@cvbee: Thank you - great advice! I think I will have to try and stay as covered as possible like you suggest. I'm on the lookout for a big, floppy-brimmed but still cute hat too!

This is not exactly what you are asking but my best recommendation is to get lots of thin-material clothes for the summer sun so you can totally block it out.

It is common to see me at the beach wearing a thin hoodie over my swimsuit, zipped up. (I find neck/shoulders to be the most prone) and I can usually deal with just sunblock on my legs. I am also always on the lookout for sundresses with good coverage (over the shoulders and high in the back. I have one that is so perfect for this and I like to walk around on the beach with that over my swimsuit. Sometimes I even sunbathe UNDER a towel. I love to lay in the sun but can't take the burns.

Otherwise, for sunblock, I find that the classic stuff (any brand) is best. Put on a thick, thick layer to start and do re-apply. I do not like the continuous spray stuff because even though it goes on nicely, it makes a weird plastic-y coating on the skin that is even hard to shower off. I find it to be a yucky feeling.

This information is coming to you from one of the most pale people around, who has spent the last 3 summers babysitting kids who have outdoor swimming lessons every day all summer. I've managed almost no burns.

I have the same issues with mole removal etc. Neutrogena sun screen works great if I can't find it on sale I will go to Banana Boat =)

I'm really fair and have to use a lot of sunscreen. Lately I have been using waterproof Banana Boat that is SPF 100.

Try California Baby brand! If you're looking for something stronger I think we use Banana Boat when we're at the beach.

My husband and I are going to Punta Cana for a week at the end of January. We are both a nice midwest winter-y pale and I have no interest in getting tan while there (doctor's orders because I get weird moles). Anyone have sunblock recommendations?

FWIW, I'm not pregnant now but would like to be by then, though I'm not holding my breath. Something pregnancy/ttc-safe would be nice though.

Thank you!!
