@PinkElephant: that’s an interesting idea! I’ll have to read more about it. Yes basically I would leave it on - since it’s on the baby’s side of the car hopefully no one would play with it / peel it off.

There’s something about my car’s setup that a RF kid gets sun right in the face, and the sun is pretty strong here.

@bhbee: Do you want it on all the time? It's not a full sunshade but what about buying some sort of cling film (like you can buy to create a privacy window in a bathroom, for example) and cutting it to size for the two separate window pieces? Like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Gila-Privacy-Adhesive-Residential-Control/dp/B000H5XTKG/ref=sr_1_15?crid=2W95KVLJE0XW0&keywords=privacy+film+for+glass+windows&qid=1552269398&s=gateway&sprefix=privacy+film+%2Caps%2C168&sr=8-15

Is there such a thing as a great sunshade for a sliding door car window? (I have a mazda5.) Anything that clings on has a problem because it’s two window pieces and the middle part prevents the cling. Also the sliding mechanism prevents anything from just going over top like the ones that are basically a mesh bag. Anyone have one that actually works well? I so wish my car had them installed!
