My daughter was like this, so hard. But she grew out of it and is now in a big Daddy phase and I ALMOST miss being #1.

@MrsRoo: DD was the same. We're pretty sure she could walk just fine on her own around 13 months, but she insisted on holding one of our fingers at all times until almost 16 months. She also liked to be held.

I weaned her around 16 months for other reasons, but the improvement in clinginess was a definite bonus! Good luck, I hope you get some breathing room soon.

@LemonJack: yes, it's so wearing. I didn't really get "touched out" with my first, but oh man- I just want to be left alone by the time dd2 goes to bed. We call her my little barnacle because she is always physically attached to me somehow.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: lucky!! I can get a little break if DH takes her for a walk, but if we are in the same building, LO is all over me.

@Peasinapod: maybe I need to try a different carrier- I used a ring sling exclusively with my first and that's what I use with dd2, but it's about 50/50 chance that she will tolerate it. She's so wiggly sometimes, but still doesn't want to let me go.

@Dahlia: a light at the end of the tunnel! We are waiting for walking still- and I do think that will help a bit. I also feel like she can walk on her own (barely needs to hold a hand and walks just fine) but she just won't. She'd much rather be held.
I nursed DD1 until 26 months, and I really want to keep nursing but I definitely could see stopping if it helps the clinging.

My LO was like that at one. She still has a mommy preference, but it's much better now at almost two. Learning to walk helped a ton (she could follow me around) and so did weaning. My husband has remarked several times how much better her and my relationship is now that we're not nursing.

That's how my lo was. She's 2.5 now and super independent . I just did a lot of babywearing and went with it. I didn't mind though so no advice how to change it .

Aww, that sounds rough! LO is attached at my hip during the week, but if DH is in town I get a little break.

No advice, just commiseration. My now (almost) 3 year old was like that. She had a HUGE mommy preference and it was exhausting. She eventually grew out of it, but I remember how wearing it was.

My 1 year old is ridiculously clingy. Like a mommy preference on steroids. She will literally cry and follow me around the house if im not holding her and if I refuse to hold her (or can't) she will cling to my legs, still crying. If she goes to anyone else when I'm around it's a small miracle and usually I have to hand her over, screaming and then leave the room. This is the complete opposite of her big sister, so I'm at a loss.

Is there anything I can do to encourage a little more separation from mama? She loves Daddy but will still scream for me after about 30 seconds if I'm in the room. I'm still nursing and would prefer not to wean completely yet, but then again she would lay on my lap and comfort nurse all day if she could.
