I did something silly like putting my daughter in the cart at Costco when she wasn't wearing pants. Thought she was wearing shorts underneath. Hehe...Old enough to buckle herself but not old enough to remember her pants.

We were driving around for 2 weeks in a foreign country before I realized that DH had failed to rebuckle/reinstall the car seat after shifting it to take some people to work. So basically LO was strapped in but the car seat wasn’t installed.
Yeah.

We've done it at least once when we would put DS in his infant seat for a nap when we were out of the house, thinking we could just lay him in there gently without buckling (or buckling very loosely) while he slept - then of course when it was time to get in the car we didn't lift up the blanket to remember that the buckles were undone/loose.

@macintosh: Um. I did that twice this week! Got the baby all buckled in, everything put in the car and ready to go - started the car and my 3 year old said “Mommy, you didn’t buckle me in!!” Ugh. I felt horrible both times. I guess we all walk around like zombies sometimes and forget such important things. #momlife

@MenagerieMama: the seat belt buckles on the passenger side and we never use that side, DD always gets in from the driver’s side. So it was totally random that I even noticed when I did. It easily could have been like that for a lot longer. I wouldn’t have been mad at all if the friend had just mentioned it, the seat is super simple to reinstall, but when I think of the “what if’s”...ugh.

@PurplePeony: my MIL does this almost every time she rides in our back seat. I discovered it the first time on daycare pickup after getting LO1 into the seat - and installing our cleks is a PIA. She since did it a few more times but at least tells us - I just always know to check now too.

Also I forget to buckle in LO1 more than I'd like to admit, partially because I get her in the car (she's in the middle) and then go around and get LO2 strapped in, and then back to LO1 to buckle - that way all the kids are at least contained. Sometimes I forget to go back to LO1 but she ALWAYS yells at me if I forget! And then she thinks it's hilarious I almost forgot  I'm glad she's a rule follower.

Me too. For all 3 of my kids when they were in the bucket seat. The first time, I was horrified and yelled at my husband to recheck and make sure they’re actually buckled in. When it happened for my second, I realized the same as @agold to slooooow down.

I’ve almost done this and DD told me before we got out of the driveway. Worse—though not something that was necessarily my fault—was when DH gave a ride to a couple friends and one sat in the back next to the car seat. It’s a Britax ClickTight so is secured by the seat belt rather than LATCH. The friend apparently unbuckled the wrong belt when getting out and NEVER TOLD DH. We drove around for nearly a week with the car seat not properly secured until I finally noticed it. 🤬😡 I’m still mad at DH’s friend about this and it happened months ago.

I know a few people who have done that (or at least, who have admitted to me they did! Probably even more just never said!). I’ve come close- like started backing it of a parking spot or our garage, by my daughter screamed out that she wasn’t buckled in. It’s always when I do something out of order- run back into the house for something, etc. I’m glad my older one is old enough to tell me now!

Still that’s better than my DH. We just got a high back booster for our 5 year old in his car. The first time he put her in it he somehow pulled the whole car seat strap up through the should belt guide, so the entire seatbelt went across her chest and nothing was over her hips. Luckily i checked before they left and fixed it. I was furious.

Yup, we've done that with both kids when they were still in the bucket seat. Usually it happened because I had just set them in the snap n go after carrying them. Then I put them in the car. Luckily I realized it soon after we started driving and I was able to either stop and buckle or reach around and buckle if DH was driving.

Oh yeah. Both DH and I have forgotten to buckle DS in. I drove him to daycare, which involves a 50 mph country road and on one of the curves I heard him saying "Wheeee!" only to look back and see him holding on to his straps very much not buckled in! I told him that he's supposed to tell mommy when she forgets. And he has told me once since then :silly:

I did that this summer with my 2 year old. We had gone out to eat with my husband's grandparents that were visiting. I had put him in his seat, but ran back inside because I forgot my phone. I assumed my husband finished buckling him in, crawled in the backseat next to him, and went on our merry way. 10 minutes down the road I look over and he's unbuckled. 😱
