I agree that you should give your body time to readjust before you freak out. 3-6 months or so is standard.

Hi csross217. I felt really anxious when I first came off BC pills and it really helped to hear other people's stories, so here's mine :) I was on BCP non-stop from age 15, coming off them after my Wedding in August last year (aged 30). I didn't have a period for almost three months to start with, but I do feel that a few cycles later things are improving and returning to normal. I have charted since late October (as I was desperately trying to work out what was going on!).... My first month ovulating, I had a 7 day luteal phase, then a 9 day the following month, 10 over xmas and 11 days during my most recent cycle. My periods are also becoming more normal - they started off very light and mostly brown (sorry if tmi) but now they seem much healthier. So to echo what others have said, it does seem to take a bit of time to normalise. And I've read a lot of people say similar things. Charting and seeing this change over time has made me feel like my body is heading in the right direction, so I would recommend it. Now we're ttc, I've also found charting to be a really useful tool :)

When I got off BC, it took maybe 4-5 months before my cycles normalized - if I were you, I'd keep track for a few more cycles so you can get an idea if this is just a one-off, or if you consistently have a shorter LP.

If it happens month after month, it can't hurt to bring it up with your doc at your next appointment (or schedule a preconception appointment) so she knows that you're going to be trying and have noticed something off.

It takes a while to regulate after BCP, almost a year for me. I always had short LP and got pregnant on the first "try" (after a year of charting and letting things sort out) so don't worry too much.

This is my first cycle off BCP after taking it for 12 years. We won't be actively trying to TTC until this summer, but I wanted to start charting to get an idea of my cycles.

My chart shows that I O'd on CD19, and AF started today, which is only an 8 day LP (with spotting most days)... I've read that anything shorter than 12 days is problematic. Is this something that I should be worried about now, or does it just take your body a while to regulate after being on BCP for so long?
