Us too! L was exclusively BF for 4 months (I went back to work at 3) then I started supplementing formula while continuing to pump at work. It took off SO MUCH stress! We did that until he was 12 months and I stopped pumping and we just BF when we're together. He's 13 months this week. I'm curious to see how long my supply lasts like this. It has definitely dropped since I stopped pumping but it's not gone yet either...

We made it to 8 months before she started completely rejecting the breast. I EPed until she turned one.

This thread makes me happy! We do about 50/50 nursing/formula right now and LO is 6 weeks. I am trying to get my supply up but assuming I don't get a full supply, eventually I would like to transition to nursing just a few times a day, but I worry I would dry up before the 1 year mark.

This is my plan! B is pretty heavily supplemented to the point where I nurse 3 times a day (sometimes 4) and the rest of his meals consist of formula. We've made it to almost 6 months this way and I'm confident we can make it at least another 6. :)

Yep! We bf/supplemented until he was 12 months. Switched to whole milk and I am still nursing for nap and bedtime at 18 months.

Yes! We supplement with one bottle of formula regularly. I stopped pumping around 12 months. M is 19.5m and we are still nursing 2-3x a day.

Yes. Ellie was heavily supplemented (formula made up more than 2/3 of her daily caloric intake) and nursed until age 5. She was still taking some formula until 17 months, and then transitioned to nursing/table food. She was late being interested in table food.

Supplementing definitely helps relieve the stress when you are working/pumping!

I only made it to 10 months, or just past... Wish I could have stretched it out a little longer but it dried up. I started supplementing around 7/8 months sporadically, then more regularly - my supply went down when I went to one pump a day -- then I tried only nursing morning/night and stopped pumping when I started a new job. I was hoping to do the morning/night nurse like @MsLipGloss: and some of my friend but it didn't work for me and the milk went away.

I guess this is more of a cautionary tale -- I was OK ending when we did and LO was fine with it, but would have liked to nurse a little longer.

@MsLipGloss: this makes me so happy to hear!! Thank you! As I adjust to going back to work I realized supplementing with formula really took the stress of meeting his needs off of me a little, but I was concerned that it might mean nursing would be cut short of my goal. Thank you!!

Yes! I nursed until 15 months (we just weaned). I stopped pumping around 10 months, and transitioned to WM at 12 months, but at a minimum, I nursed morning and evenings. (And until 12 months, also nursed on demand on the weekends.) It is totally doable!

Since I started work we've had to supplement 5-8 oz a day of formula. I nurse 2-3 times and give 8-12 oz BM. To moms who nursed and supplemented, we're you able to keep nursing? I'd like to nurse at least a year. So far, he is still very interested in nursing in the morning and when I get home. Supy is so low by the time bed time rolls around that we give a formula bote before bed. Please share your success stories!
