@yellowbird: Well, our pediatrician gave us Gerber gentle. If I could start over I would have probably gotten like the Similac non-GMO or something organic, but I know sometimes it's hard for them to get used to formula, so I just stuck with that since she drank it fine, and had no tummy issues.

@gingerbebe: @MrsSRS: I think I will def try it straight first. No need to make it more complicated than it has to be!

I started giving 1-2 bottles of formula around that time too, to stretch out the breastmilk. I never mixed the two; DD was fine switching between the two.

I second trying it straight first. Mixing is great if baby cares, but some don't so you might be able to save yourself a little work.

We had good success with Gerber formula when DS was itty bitty because it was so gentle and by the end he was on Honest formula. I would try giving a bottle of regular formula and see how he does. He may not mind it on which case you don't have to worry about mixing. If he rejects it then go 75/25 and gradually step down until you're at formula.

Yep, you can mix breastmilk and formula! I think since you know you'll need to have formula in the mix before one year, I wouldn't wait any longer to introduce it because the taste will take some getting used to. Maybe start mixing 1/2 and 1/2 and then once taking that, do 1-2 full bottles of it per day?

As for brand, pick something you have easy access to (well stocked where you shop) and is affordable! You can call the formula companies to get samples - might try one out first and see if LO handles it OK before buying more of it.

I recently had surgery and between the surgery itself, not being able to get out of bed for several days, being away from my son and now a medication I need to be on for at least 3 more weeks my milk supply is basically gone.

I was pretty burnt out with pumping anyway so I've decided to just ride it out nursing morning and evening as long as it's sustainable.

I have several hundred oz of breast milk in the freezer that we are going through but it won't last until Ds is 12 months. He is almost 9 months now and I think the frozen milk will last probably until 10 months.

Should I go ahead and start 1-2 formula bottles a day or should I use up my frozen until it's gone and then use formula? Can you mix breast milk and formula together? When I transitioned my daughter to whole milk I started by mixing the bottles so she could get used to the taste. I'm not sure if formula is the same since I've never used it? Also, how the heck to I decide what kind to buy? He has no allergies or sensitivities so far. Help!
